    Description (Rebecca's)

This is a very simple, moderate quality product. Do not expect it to last long!

It's also not really designed to be worn while sleeping, but we have it lumped into the category with other patches.

For the right person, it may be a very important tool, particularly for temporary use.

Who is the right person? I would say definitely a lot of the folks with Bell's Palsy anyone suffering from corneal exposure due to facial paralysis or a non-closing eyelid. There is such a lack of patches for an exposed eye! The most effective ones are the adhesive bubble patches i.e. NITEYE, Ortolux, but they're hard on the skin and very expensive. Then there's Solo Shields, but they are vented, and the foam is stiff so they are not very versatile on the fit, and if you want it to be a moisture chamber you'd have to tape over the holes. So this Pro-Moisture Chamber patch fills an important little niche.

    Basics

The cover: The front part is a very soft, flexible clear plastic. The picture doesn't quite do it justice - you can't tell whether it's clear or frost. It's definitely clear.

The foam: The patch is edged with a soft white foam about 8mm thick. That won't sound like much, but because the plastic is flexible, it flexes to seal pretty well, assuming the size is a good fit. When I say the foam is "soft" I don't mean soft to the touch particularly but rather very squishy (unlike the much denser foam on the Solo Shield, for example). It's reasonably soft to the touch, but if you have very sensitive skin, I could easily see it becoming irritating if worn for too long or too frequently.

The strap: Skinny single strand elastic. It is not adjustable, although you could tie a knot in it if you wanted to shorten it.

Sizing: Get the large if you're not sure. The small size seems most likely to fit children or adults with small eyes and heads.

    My experience testing it

I absolutely hate wearing anything on my head during the day other than glasses, so I hate testing things like this. When I tried it out, I had just tried on several other items from the same manufacturer and was feeling distinctly grumpy. Then I put this on and was like... wow, really? I was impressed in spite of myself.

When I tried on the small one, it was definitely too small for me - it fit too close to my eye, and the strap was too short, so it really dug in. I didn't leave it on long but I was impressed that it didn't appear to interfere with my vision - I mean, I barely knew it was there. Then I put a pair of glasses on over it. It didn't change the comfort, and I could still see fine. Only, it fit too close to my eye so my lashes brushed up against it, and because it fit too close, it was uncomfortable.

So then I switched to the large. Much better fit for me. I left this one on for several hours, and I wore my glasses over it for a lot of that time. I could kind of see the foam on this one (especially towards the nose) but it definitely didn't seem to obscure my vision at all. I'm still really impressed that I could wear this on my right (dominant) eye, under glasses, and still see decently. It fogged only minimally. (Your mileage may vary.)

    What about longer term needs?

There still really isn't anything on the market that I know of that is good enough quality to offer frequent all-day protection for a single eye without adhesive. My recommendation for longer term needs is moisture chamber glasses. Ziena Eyewear are the best of those in terms of balancing form with function. Give us a call for more guidance.

    Does it contain latex?

There is latex in the elastic band, but not in the foam.

    Seals well, uncomfortably tight

I purchased this because in my past I've noticed that placing my hand over my eye's orbit, without touching the eyelid, often relieves discomfort associated with my sclera lens. This was useful yesterday, after experimenting with sleeping with an eye ointment and tape, after using 20 ml of Sclerahfil saline solution to (mostly) clear the ointment the next day.

However, the elastic strap is uncomfortably tight, and not adjustable.

    Not worth the money

First, I thought that package would include one for both eyes, it doesn’t. If you have only one dry eye then this may work for you. The plastic is so cheap and scratched and the foam is very itchy. I paid $30 plus shipping for two.

Definitely not worth more than a couple dollars

    Hi Donna,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the patches! I'm happy to discuss a return or a refund of the products based on your comments. I'm concerned to hear that the plastic was scratched. I'm going to clarify our description to be more explicit that it's only one patch. As for the quality, we try to be upfront that this is designed for temporary use. We know of a few Palsy patients who rely on these, otherwise they might not be right for everyone.

    Best,

    Aidan

    okay but not great

There doesn't seem to be another product anything like these things. It would help if they didn't come apart so quickly. The foam comes off and the clear plastic is low-quality. They do work, however.

    Too small

I watched the product video and thought that the small would work, but I was wrong. Otherwise this product is good and would be useful. The small is definitely for a child or someone with a tiny head. The eye cup was a good size for me but the elastic dug into my head

Thank you for your review! For anyone else who's curious, the small is 40x60 mm and the large is 50x70 mm.

    My Secret Soother

Here's is a tip. After a long day of wearing my sclera lens my left eye will some times need more comfort than eye drops can provide. Popping on my pro- moisture chamber quickly restores needed moisture which soon quells any residual stinging that may occur on any given day. The clear window makes this suitable to wear under spectacles. Don't need it daily, but when I do need it nothing else works as well to take its place.
