This is a decent quality easy-to-use cold compresses. The strap is secure enough to hold it in place, though I could wish it were a little longer. If you have long silky hair, you might find the ends of the velcro straps get stuck to it a little. - It cools down quickly and is pretty comfortable. It's not thick - which means temperature retention isn't the longest, but it also means that you're less likely to experience discomfort from the weight (which can be a problem with some eye compresses).
The most important thing about any compress is going to be whether it holds the cold right on your eyes where you want it, and for that, it's going to depend on your eye anatomy. I have medium set eyes and it was fine for me. Someone with deeper set eyes may find it doesn't reach. (Incidentally, Tranquileyes is one of the better products for that situation.)
Allergy
This product is marketed for ocular allergy symptoms. And it's good for that! Nothing like cool and wet when your eyes are itchy, inflamed or burning.
Pain? Inflammation? Redness?
But in our ocular surface disease world more broadly, cold compresses are an overlooked tool for pain, for inflammation and for redness. This is not a medical claim! This is meant purely as practical advice, NOT medical advice. If you have pain, inflammation and/or redness, I hope to goodness you are getting proper medical care!
"But I was told to do warm compresses"
It's helpful to understand that there are different types of uses of compresses.
Warm compresses are often recommended by doctors as a home remedy for meibomian gland dysfunction: by warming up the glands, unhealthy thickened meibum (oil) can thin out and loosen up and allow the gland secretions to continue moving freely. That's what we'd call a therapeutic use, and it's as old as the hills. - However, some people use warm compresses more as a feel-good (palliative) thing.
Cold compresses can be used (with care!) on the eyes much like cold can be used on other body parts for pain and inflammation. Cold compresses also help soothe down red eyes (depending what's actually causing the redness, of course).
So, warm and cold compresses are compatible (subject to your doctor's advice, of course). That is, someone who uses daily warm compresses for MGD may also be using cold compresses as needed for pain.

Please read instructions carefully, do not discard these instructions and refer to them before each use.
- Leave the Eye Doctor Allergy compress in the bag provided and place in the fridge for at least two hours.
- Remove the Eye Doctor Allergy compress from the bag and insert into the cover. Place the compress and the cover in cold water, squeeze off excess water. Apply to closed eyes until symptoms are relieved.
- After application, return the Eye Doctor Allergy compress, in the storage bag, to the fridge ready for next time.
Do not use on broken or bleeding skin. Never share your Eye Doctor Allergy compress. For individual use only. Inspect at regular intervals and discard if found worn or damaged.
This product is biodegradable and should be disposed of through normal household waste.
