Description (Rebecca's)

The two dominant trends in eyelid hygiene products in the past several years have been hypochlorous acid and tea tree oil (with the latter promoted specifically for demodex). Hypochlorous acid has been a leading concept for quite awhile, with strong fans equally amongst doctors and patients. It started with Avenova, which is now sold on prescription, and was followed up with over-the-counter versions HypoChlor and Heyedrate (both sold here).

I think of these trends as complementary rather than competitive concepts. A recent poll we ran (look for things like Eyelid Care in our Survey Center) where we asked what everyone's preferred lid cleansing products were really drove it home to me about how diverse we are, in any case! But also, one of the messages I got from that survey is that finances constrain many people's choice of lid hygiene products.

I believe that Contamac's new HyClear product is going to be the closest thing to Avenova available without a prescription and at a lower pricepoint, so for those of you looking for a way to save, I highly recommend giving it a try, and I look forward to your feedback. Please come back and post a review for others' benefit!

    Manufacturer FAQ

Is HyClear as effective as pure hypochlorous acid .01% products?

Yes, HyClear has the same activity, microbial spectrum and non‐toxicity as other pure hypochlorous acid .01% products. HyClear solution kills most pathogens in 15 seconds and has activity against Adenovirus.

What is the difference between HyClear and other pure hypochlorous acid .01% products?

HyClear has a unique manufacturing process which produces a balanced solution that is both pure and stable. Unlike other pure hypochlorous acid .01% products that require discarding 30 days after opening, HyClear has a shelf life of up to 18 months.

How long will a bottle of HyClear last?

A 2 oz. bottle of HyClear will last the patient approximately 2 months when used as directed.

Are there any side effects associated with HyClear?

Except for patients with a hypersensitivity to chlorine, there are no side effects associated with HyClear.

Why does HyClear have a faint bleach smell?

Hypochlorous acid is comprised of hydrogen, oxygen and chlorine in a lightly bound acid. When HyClear is sprayed from the bottle, the hypochlorous acid immediately dissipates. The faint bleach smell is produced by the small amount of unbound chlorine.
