Description (by Rebecca)

Tea tree lid wipes seem to be all the rage right now - every time I turn around another one pops up. The earliest one I remember is Sterilid (from the TheraTears company, now part of Akorn). Then there was Cliradex, from Dr. Tseng, still quite popular, but harder to get and more expensive. Now there are lots more. W

Trying to figure out what works for you is not much different from artificial tears - you don't know till you try it. Many people do not tolerate tea tree oil well in the higher concentrations especially, so unless you're allergic, if you have one bad experience it may still be worth trying another gentler version.

The essential 'claim to fame' for tea tree oil in lid hygiene products is that it is believed to control demodex mites, which are a relatively common cause of inflammation in the meibomian (oil) glands in the eyelids, hence directly related to dry eye symptoms. So if you are using a lid 'scrub' product that does not have tea tree oil and it doesn't seem to be doing enough for you, it might be worth a conversation with your eye doctor.
