Description (Rebecca's)
This is something I've wanted for a long time: Tranquileyes XL solo!
Tranquileyes is a dual-purpose product: It is designed for use with instant or bead packs for moist warm or cold compresses, and it is also used on its own with its moisture pads for overnight dry eye protection. (You can also use it while napping or taking a 'reset my eyes' break during the day.)
Standard size Tranquileyes has always been available either on its own or in a "Travel & Sleep" kit. However, until now, the XL (extra large) version has only been available in combo kits with the hot/cold packs. Some people want the XL goggle for overnight protection and don't need all the other items in those larger kits, and I'm very pleased that the manufacturer has agreed to provide us with XL goggles specifically for this purpose.
Tranquileyes XL is a LOT larger than standard Tranquileyes, but for the right person with larger orbits, it can be really good for overnight use. In my opinion both sizes of Tranquileyes are best suited to back sleepers, but the XL size even more so due to the extra bulk. So before you consider sizing up, you may want to take your sleep style into consideration. For many side sleepers with larger eyes (or faces), Eyeseals may be a better choice for night time use. However, everyone is different, different tolerances, different needs, different preferences. As with all Eye Eco kits, we have a 30 day return policy (note: shipping both ways is your cost) so feel free to experiment!
Personally, one of my favorite things to do after a really long day when my eyes are tired and sore is to take out my scleral lenses, then soak the pads of my Tranquileyes XL in cold water, put them in, and put it on. I'll usually flip the pads over after a little while to get the most i can out of the coolness, then I just go to sleep with it on. Another approach would be to put some chilled Thermoeyes Bead inserts in behind the foam, to make the cold last longer, and the main reason I don't do that is I don't want to fall asleep with them in as it would be too much pressure on my eyes overnight.
One of the things I like about Tranquileyes XL for overnight use - for myself personally - is that with the pads so much wider, I feel like everything is more spread out and doesn't press down on my lids the same way. Of course, with Tranquileyes' standard size, you can always trim down the pads if they're pressing too much. And for those that are used to regular size Tranquileyes, the foam pads in the XL are just kind of blunt cut (hm, I clearly don't know the right terminology here) as opposed to sort of sculpted with round edges, and they are available unlined only.
Enjoy experimenting! I find that every one of the Eye Eco goggles has its use, so I have one of each my nightstand. Winter with the heat on, allergy season, summer when things are a little calmer, or the odd flare-up or a few days of erosions - my eyes need different things at different seasons and under different stresses.
Description (Manufacturer's)
Sleep/Sheltering, as long as desired
Tranquileyes XL is designed to comfortably shelter eyes from drafts and light while resting or sleeping. If you currently use eye drops or ointment, we recommend applying either as directed and following the instructions for mild moist heat therapy prior to using all night.
Mild moist heat therapy, 4-6 min treatment
Moisten black foam inserts in warm bottled water for 30 seconds. Squeeze excess water from foam and insert into eye covers. Foam should be damp. Place goggle over eyes and secure with head strap.
Mild cold therapy, 3-5 min treatment
Moisten black foam inserts in water, place in resealable bag and freeze for 15 min. Remove inserts from bag, squeeze excess moisture and insert black foam into goggle. Place goggle over eyes and secure with head strap.
Use with thermoeyes XL reusable gel packs for increased intensity and duration of heat or cold.
Cleaning
Hand wash black foam inserts with mild soap and warm water after each use. Rinse well, squeeze out extra moisture and air dry in enclosed mesh bag. Wash plastic eye covers with foam attached in the same way, as needed. Foam (outer cushions and inner pad) should be replaced periodically.
Goggle strap is removable and replaced as needed.
