Description (by Rebecca)

7Eye AirDam series eyewear are high quality wrap-style sunglasses with a built-in seal of closed-cell foam on the frames. This seal is shallower than its counterpart in the AirShield series, so it will not give the right-to-the-skin seal that an AirShield style will, though the frame shape itself ensures a pretty close fit.

Because of the shallower foam seal, it's also much more discreet than the AirShields, so this solution tends to be favored when aesthetics are given equal weight with performance. On a well-fitting frame it will give much more protection than ordinary sunglasses, but less than an AirShield.

Another consideration in favor of the AirDam, in some cases, would be peripheral vision. Due to the deep eyecup of the AirShields, some side vision is necessarily lost. For this reason I would tend to favor AirDams, at least the wider styles, for driving - but only if you can get a frame to fit closely enough to give adequate protection from heat and a/c.

How do they work?

The combination of frame shape and foam lining means your eyes are protected from most wind/drafts.

How do they look?

Barely distinguishable from normal sunglasses.

How do I select a framestyle?

There are three ladies' AirDam styles to choose from: Leveche, Mistral, and Zephyr. The Mistral framestyle is a popular ladies' style with great protection and nice large lenses. Like the Leveche, Mistral is a somewhat roomy fit, great on average size faces but likely to be too large for very small or very narrow faces.

Description (from the manufacturer's literature)

Frame Technology: AirDam / Enhanced Protection

If you wear ordinary sunglasses, your eyes probably aren't getting the protection they deserve. With 7Eye's AirDam models, you get substantially more protection from wind and peripheral glare than ordinary sunglasses provide. Your eyes will love you for it.

Sculpted Fit: AirDam is designed for better fit.

We designed AirDam models to allow some venting between the frame and  the face, yet still knock down most wind and glare.

Comfort: Enhanced protection feels great

The textured surface of the closed-cell foam sits comfortably on the skin. The low profile design of the AirDam enhances protection, yet is still discreet enough to appear as casual eyewear.

Mistral

Mistral is a fashion-forward frame best for S-L faces. It has a lightweight TR90 frame with an AirDam shield that will consistently maintain a comfortable environment for your eyes. Its Thermal Plastic Rubber (TPR) AirDam won't irritate skin or interact with sunscreen. AirDam is ideal for those who want more sun and wind protection than normal sunglasses provide but with less foam than the AirShield collection provides. 7Eye by Panoptx Air Dam models are particularly suitable for contact lens wearers as they help combat end-of-day dryness even if only worn for part of the day. 100% UVA+B protection.
  • Fit: Small-Large
  • Rx Ready: Yes
  • Includes: Case, Microfiber Bag, Leash

Usage and Care

What are these glasses used for?

7Eye AirDam glasses are designed for minimizing wind and peripheral glare but without going the length of actual goggles. They achieve this with a combination of the wrap style and a layer of foam built onto the frame. They are popular among dry eye patients who want protection without sacrificing too much aesthetically. They will not seal right to the skin, however, this also makes them attractive for those who have skin sensitivities and do not tolerate deeper foam eyecups well.

The most common use is as sunglasses for driving and outdoor activities. AirDams are a great option for people with dry eye who are willing to live without a 'right to the skin' seal in favor of a more attractive look. However, all of 7Eye's lens options, including clear and photochromic types are available, and some people do choose AirDam styles for indoor dry eye glasses in order to gain a fair amount of protection without looking too "goggly".

Cleaning and care

7Eye glasses come with a microfiber polishing cloth. The glasses can be cleaned with a standard lens cleaning product or liquid soap and water.
