Description (by Rebecca)

EyeSeals 4.0 is one of a series of moisture goggles developed by the company Eye Eco. It's a very effective foamless shield that fills some important niches.

How does it compare to Onyix/Quartz? Some key advantages:

  • More versatile sizing (more likely to fit men or anyone with large orbits)
  • Better moisture seal
  • Vaults higher over the eyes (eyelashes won't reach it)
  • Less likely to create skin indentations

On the other hand, a few disadvantages:

  • Larger and bulker
  • Not compatible with all CPAP masks

How does it compare to Tranquileyes? I would say that the moisture retention is almost as good, while it does not require all the maintenance and parts replacements. Plus, it's available in a clear version, so you can leave it on if you get up in the night. As a result, this has been my first recommendation for many new users - because it is so user friendly. Less maintenance, less hassle.

Disadvantage or limitations?

  • Higher cost.
  • Relatively large sizing. May leave gaps on smaller faces.
  • Durability issues.

Bottom line, this product is positioned in my head as "Almost as good as Tranquileyes at the moisture factor, without any of the drawbacks".

Suggested best uses

  • Men. This is the first EyeEco product that fits most men quite well. It may be small for some men with extra large hat size.
  • Tranquileyes candidates. Many people who used to use, or who have been advised to use, Tranquileyes have switched to EyeSeals as a user-friendly alternative that is lower maintenance and does not touch the eye area.
  • Anyone with moderate to severe night dry eye who needs physical barrier protection but does not wanting anything touching their eyelids and/or prefers a transparent product for night use
  • Patients with excessive drying due to inadequate eyelid closure (Bell's palsy, complications from eyelid surgeries, etc). We find these vaulting shields often an effective and more practical option for such patients than products that will hold the lids down.

    Alternatives to consider

Please see our Product Guide: Night Dry Eye Protection Devices for suggested guidelines on product choices.

    Description (from the manufacturer's literature)

    about the product:

Recommended for nighttime use to relieve dry eye, Lagophthalmos, aqueous deficient dry eye, floppy eye syndrome, and recurrent corneal erosions. Can also be used with C-PAP and during air travel.

Soft and flexible, our hydrating eyeseals 4.0™ are made from medical grade thermal plastic, so they rest comfortably over your orbital bones, while leaving room to blink freely.

Fitted with an adjustable microfiber head wrap, the eyeseals 4.0™ gently shelter eyes from drafts, dust, and low humidity environments. This creates a moisture rich space over your eyes, hydrating the sensitive eyelid area and preserving your tears, helping soothe dry, tired eyes.

Made in the USA and 100% latex free, eyeseals 4.0™ are perfect for relieving multiple dry eye-related conditions, wherever the symptoms may strike. Order yours today, and see why thousands of customers trust us with their dry eye therapy.

    included in the kit:

    • One eyeseal™ with secure wrap
    • One gray microfiber storage sack

    Usage and Care

What is EyeSeals 4.0 used for?

EyeSeals 4.0 is a night dry eye protection shield to block drafts and increase humidity around the eyes.

    Instructions for use

Using Eyeseals 4.0™ with Secure Wrap:

Gently clean face and eyelids to remove all dirt and make-up prior to using eyeseals™ 4.0. Your mask is designed to keep moisture in and drafts out. The fit should be comfortable.

Similar to finding your perfect shoe size. Not too tight and not too loose. To avoid tearing the mask, adjust the strap while mask is off the face. Once you find the perfect fit, the wrap is designed to stay put.

For increased moisture during wear, add a few drops of water to inside of eyecups prior to wearing. The combination of moisture, an enclosed space and body heat creates a natural humidifier for the eyes.

    Cleaning and care

To ensure the most comfortable night of rest, wash your mask with mild soap and rinse with warm water prior to wearing. Pat dry with enclosed microfiber bag.

    Love at first sleep

OK, I have only used them 3 nights so I can only HOPE they will be durable for me. I sure hope they will be because the comfort is superb and the charcoal ones really do block light perfectly (a must for me). With these and ointment, my eyes feel almost 80% normal in the morning -- better than I sleep on my side and use a bi-pap, and these solved the problem of pap air getting in my eyes perfectly. Highly recommended!

    Side-Sleeper Savior

I have tried a dozen soft sleep masks and they either don’t stay on or are too bulky to sleep on my side.

So I scheduled a call, and had a wonderful conversation with Rebecca who provided tips for using various products. I ordered the

Onyx/Quartz and EyeSeals after our chat.

The Onyx goggles did not fit me well but were comfortable for side-sleeping.

The EyeSeals provided good, comfortable eye coverage and were supple, not stiff! BUT it does tend to want to slip off despite the extra wide-wide band which is fabric (a very nice touch!!) I am going to find a way make it work because everything else about the goggles is great! I add 3-4 sprays of the veyelid cleaner to the inside of the eye portion with an extra-large Oasis drop and my eyes still feel moist in the morning (if the mask doesn’t slip off during the night)

Unfortunately, the Onyx/Quartz will go back ????. NOTE FROM REBECCA: This is my favorite kind of review... real! Pros, cons and all the tricks to make things work. Thanks, Suzanne!

    Question...

I have a normal size face but a very small nose bridge in between my eyes do you think these will fit me NOTE FROM REBECCA: Nose bridge per se shouldn't be a problem but maybe I'm misunderstanding - If the eyes are closer set together than average the fit is probably iffy - worst case, you don't get a good seal around the upper corners of the eyes. If you're a back sleeper, Tranquileyes is the best option for a good moisture seal on more challenging fits (if you don't like the pads on your eyes you can cut one in half lengthwise and use half a pad in each for the moisture minus contact). Onyix/Quartz on the other hand might be another possibility - in the more challenging fits sometimes people remove the nose bridge and replace it with thread to customize the distance between the eyecups for optimal fit. - You're always welcome to try things and return them if they don't work out - 30 day return policy on night stuff. - Rebecca

    Will Last Maximum 6 months

I've had to get 2 replacements because the mask tore and now the third one just gave out within 6 months (others made it 2 & 3 months). EyeEco won't refund since they say it should be replaced every 6 months. Can't see where they say that in the description. Not worth the 60 $ NOTE FROM REBECCA: So very sorry for your experience. I spoke with Eye Eco after this happened and it seems there was a miscommunication amongst their staff. They honor the 1 year warranty. I understand the frustration of having to deal with warranty replacements at all, though, and more so in your situation with dealing with international shipping! If we can help find something more suitable we will sure try. My last note is that durability varies A LOT from user to user. Some have no problems; some have frequent problems. We know it's an issue, but the product itself performs uniquely well and the company that makes it are the ONLY ones out there trying to serve this painfully underserved market, so we continue to support the product and rely on the manufacturer for warranty support. - Rebecca

    Good but temporary

I found them to be very comfortable (as a man with a large head)and effective at stopping my eyes drying out. However, despite good care within 9 months they had to be repaired a number of times as the latex kept splitting. NOTE FROM REBECCA: Thanks for posting! Glad they were helping you, but sorry for the frustration of them not lasting long enough. Just want to mention there is a 1 year manufacturer warranty. I believe there is now also a UK distributor, which hopefully will make dealing with warranty replacements a faster and simpler process. I also want to clarify for other readers that this is a LATEX-FREE product. It is made of thermal plastic. The longevity issues have been with a somewhat unpredictable tendency to tear either at the strap attachment points (which have been improved with strengthening grommets) or at the nose bridge. This seems to vary a lot from user to user, perhaps related to sleep style or other factors placing more stress on it. We are in regular touch with the manufacturer about this and they are working continually to improve the product. It's a very important product as it's the only one on the market that really fits men well, and that seals in moisture very well without touching the eyes or having uncomfortable parts. - Rebecca
