Visitec Eye Bandage

About Visitec Eye Bandage

  • Clear, self-adhesive
  • Vented bubble eye bandage
  • Single use
  • 4" x 3" (actual bubble is 2" x 1" x .5")

Description (by Rebecca)

Visitec, like NITEYE, has a large, firm, clear oblong bubble vaulting quite high over the eye to help block most moving air. But while NITEYE is completely enclosed, Visitec bandages have three perforations for venting so that it can be suitable for post-operative use.

The adhesive flange is wide and can be trimmed to size. This is a popular disposable vented protective moisture chamber, comparable in function to the Ortolux Air.

Suggested best uses

  • Doctor's advice: If your doctor does not allow you to use sealed shields due (for example) to high infection risk, you will need a vented alternative. In this case, Visitec and Ortolux Air are the best options.
  • Anyone looking for an alternative to tape-on vented shields.
  • Floppy eyelid syndrome, or anyone else needing a rigid form of protection that cannot be dislodged by movements during sleep - if they are not allowed to use sealed products.
  • Hospital use? This product would allow pupils to be checked without removing it as the larger vent hole is right in the middle.

Limitations and alternatives

  • Glasses compatibility: If you need a product you can use under glasses, consider Ortolux Air instead - its adhesive is harder on the skin but the bubble does not vault as high so it is more likely to actually fit under glasses.
  • Vents: This product has a large vent hole in the center and a smaller vent hole at either end, compared to the Ortolux which has a few small holes at either end. I would expect Ortolux to have considerably better moisture retention.
  • Size: It is pretty large, though the flange can be trimmed to size.
  • Cost is the biggest limitation. Bubble eye bandages in general are disposable, not well suited to long term use. Use it for travel, use it to get past a particularly difficult time, but for long term use talk to us about the durable alternatives.

Description (from the manufacturer's literature)

Clear self-adhesive eye bandage with holes for use post-LASIK. Packaged non-sterile.
