Optase Intense has recently joined the ranks of sodium hyaluronate drops on the US market. The preservative-free bottling technology they use is similar (but not identical) to some other familiar names like Oasis and Freshkote.

This is all glycerin and I mix it after use with other saline drops, it’s far too viscous for use by itself. I recommend a product with only partial glycerin content.

Hi there and thanks for your review! We don't recommend mixing eye drops. Viscous drops are usually favored by people with more severe symptoms. Regarding the ingredients, a suggestion: when you see glycerin, look around for the sodium hyaluronate in the inactive ingredients - this is the real point, even though antiquated FDA rules prevent it from being listed in the active ingredients. For a 'thinner' hyaluronate drop, you could try Blink, or Oasis PF, or Refresh Relieva (which also has CMC) if you're interested.
I really like these drops. On a trip to europe when I was just starting to deal with dry eyes and EBMD I discovered Hylo Forte and they were amazing, but not avaiable in USA. As best as I can tell, this is the same or closest product from the same company to the US market.
I don't know quite how to describe it, but I find them lubricating / oiling / smoothing rather than just wetting.
So, they would be my preferred drop that I've tried so far, but they also come in efficient packaging - a small bottle with 300 preservative free drops in it. It's taking me a while to get use to the amount of pressure to apply to get a drop out which is more than for individual vials, but I am.
The dropper is a white plastic top with a small blue "nipple" in the middle. I have seen this dropper style on at least one other eye drop, so it may be familiar to others.

I decided to try the Optase Dry Eye Intense Drops because the bottles of Oasis Tears haven't been available. I would say that this formulation is on par with Oasis Tears Plus, but maybe even a little thicker. My eyes do blur up a bit after application, but it clears up within minutes. I haven't tried this product with contact lenses yet (the product labeling states that it is safe to use with contacts), but I think the drops will provide a nice layer of protection between the lenses and the corneal surface because of the thicker consistency of the drop. The clear bottle is nice because it's easy to see how much product is left in the bottle. The plastic bottle is pliable (some of them are made of a harder plastic), so it's a bit easier to control the drop when squeezing the bottle in comparison to some similar products I've used. The label states that the drops should be used within 90 days of opening the bottle. I prefer to use bottles with the 90-day shelf life compared to the "use one-day and throw it away" products because I think it's more economical. If you are looking for a preservative-free glycerin drop that is a little thicker than Oasis Tears Plus, I'd say give this a try.
