  • Eyelid cleansing spray
  • Leave-on formula
  • Hypochlorous acid 0.015%
  • 3.38 fl oz (100mL)

Hypochlorous acid lid cleansers are ubiquitous! Every major brand has one now. Not the most flattering way to introduce a new product, but bear with me because there are some advantages to this one.

So hypochlorous acid is a simple antiseptic that has gained great traction in eye care ever since Avenova was launched. Optase Protect (May 2021) is one of the very most recently launched. It is 0.015%, right in the middle between Avenova at 0.01% and Ocusoft Hypochlor at 0.02% Ocusoft.

At 100mL, this is the largest packaging of of hypochlorous acid lid cleanser on the market yet, and the most economical.

Optase Protect is a unique eyelid cleansing spray. The spray cleanses the eyelids and eyelashes and helps to improve the appearance of the eyes and eyelids.

Directions for use:

Eyecare: Spray one pump onto each eyelid twice per day, morning and evening. Once sprayed onto the eyelids, allow to dry naturally and do not wipe off.

Ingredients: Water, salt and hypochlorous acid.

Warning: Stop application if eyes or skin around eyes show signs of redness, irritation or sensitivity and conult your eyecare professional.

Storage: Keep out of direct sunlight.

Disposal: Dispose of contents/container in accordance with local regulations.

Optase Protect is a leave on formula for convenience and also a pH balanced formula for comfort on sensitive skin.

Bottle: HDPE, UV protected.

OPTASE for 2

I have experimented with other hypochlorous acid products (gels, sprays) but come back to this economical product. My significant other now is battling an eye infection using antibiotic drops 4 times a day. This process produces crusty biofilm residue on his eyelids and lashes. I gave him one bottle of OPTASE to help clean eyelids, eyelashes, and eyebrows. He is compliant with the product and says it helps. I find the concentration of hypochlorous acid beneficial as I have used this type of lid/lash cleaner many years. Stronger formulas can sensitize delicate eyelids. The volume (100 ml)is economical for my tight budget.

Not perfect, but still my favorite hypochlorous acid eye spray

I've been using hypochlorous acid for years now, and some of the brands are so expensive for a small bottle! This one has a very nice concentration of the main ingredient — not the weakest, not the strongest — in a larger bottle. My one gripe is with the sprayer, which can be a little unpredictable. Some bottles are perfect, others spray in a straight line or make bigger droplets. I can work with that, but it wastes more product and gets on more of my face. That's usually okay with me, as it's also a useful skincare step to kill bacteria and prevent acne, but I wish they'd improve the nozzle.

Burns My Eyes

I decided to switch from Pure and Clean as a trial. Very similar ingredients but stopped using Optase due to burning from the liquid. Followed directions well.

Even after closing my eyes tight for more than a minute. Burning occurred upon opening eyes. Good try but I'll stick with Pure and Clean.

Works well, less expensive than Avenova!

I've been using Avenova daily with good results. This Optase spray works equivalently for me. The spray dispenser is a little less elegant, the spray mist is not as fine...but that doesn't impact its utility. I think this might on occasion sting a tiny bit more. But for the cost savings, I believe it makes sense for me to switch over to Optase.
