This product has been around for a long time, and we stocked it for awhile in the past. I think perhaps at one point it went on backorder for awhile and we never restocked it. At any rate, it eventually disappeared from our system. I was motivated to add it back in recently because honestly, the whole eyelid hygiene category is so dominated by tea tree oil products that I wanted to see more non-TTO products in our shop. Nothing against TTO (and no, I don't buy into the latest ingredient anti-TTO craze) but there are plenty of people that don't tolerate it or don't want it or just plain don't like the smell.
Next (and hopefully last) digression. I love Alcon's retro metallic packaging. They first used it when they launched Systane Hydration, which happens to be the one Systane brand eye drop I am a big personal fan of. So when I went looking for a good picture of this Systane Lid Wipes box to borrow, thus saving myself and you from my lack of photography and light box skills, I hoped to find a decent pic on Alcon's own website. Unfortunately, they still had the old packaging showing. Alcon marketing peeps... c'mon, you can do better than that. So I borrowed a more accurate one but it definitely doesn't show the metallic - sigh.
Anyhoo, yes, I did actually try the wipe again to remind myself what it's like. The material is soft enough and wet enough for my lids, so it passed test #1 (definitely not true of some others). The liquid is fairly strong stuff. It is not a leave-on formulation, so no, don't make the same lazy mistake I did. It also has a slightly odd, though not particularly unpleasant, smell which I can't quite place... it's still somewhere on the tip of my tongue.
Naturally, I used a wipe before reading the instructions, so I missed the part about rubbing the closed pouch first to develop a lather. That definitely made it sudsy-er the second time around, which also functioned as a good reminder to rinse it off. I am not a big fan of rinse-off products for my personal use because my eyes are easily irritated by water, but that's just a me thing.
This is a popular brand and a popular product, and I have no doubt it does the intended job just fine. Despite the usual "non-irritating" claim, I would always advise anyone who thinks they have sensitive eyelids or eyes to review the ingredient list.
