    About LensBase

    • Collapsible stand with handy carrying case
    • Allows hands-free insertion
    • Base catches saline
    • Includes open-ended silicone plunger

    Description (Rebecca's)

    What it is

This is a handy new utility device for lens insertion. It consists of:

    • Flat white plastic carrying case, about 3.25" square and <1" high
    • Clear plastic "frog-shaped" stand that snaps into one half of the plastic case, which then functions as a base to catch saline drops
    • Blue silicone plunger in the "vented" style

    How it compares to others

    Marketing

This product has more polished marketing and packaging than any other scleral lens insertion stand currently on the market, and I would tend to predict strong market uptake in optometry on that basis.

    Stand height

LensBase tops out about 2.5" off the table (without plunger), which is similar to See Green but shorter than DMV and S5. Some people will find that their face is getting uncomfortably close to the table or that they need a 'booster' (books or something underneath).

    Stability

Reasonably good. Because of the light weight plastics, LensBase may not feel quite as solid - in terms of the whole unit staying in space and not sliding - as either See Green (with its heavy PVC) or DMV (with its resin base).

    Plunger

LensBase comes with its own dark blue silicone plunger, with a different design and material than any other we've seen on the market. The opening at the vented end is about 4mm (vs 2mm at the 'cup' end). The material feels much slicker than DMV's latex or SeeGreen's latex or silicone plungers and is best suited for use with the stand than with fingers. However, the winder opening at the far end favors easy manual cleaning.

In case you're curious, DMV and See Green plungers do not work very well with this stand - they will fit, but not snugly enough to stay very stable.

    Visual guide

There is no light adaptation for this stand, but the wide opening at the bottom of the plunger leaves room for light to come through, reflected off the white base.

    Usefulness

I can definitely see a role for this stand in helping to increase awareness of the role of stands in learning lens insertion. I can also imagine plenty of See Green stand users getting one of these for travel convenience.

    LOVE

I love this little stand! I'm 100% a stand user. It's just easier for me. I've made DIY stands with tea lights and plungers. Bought the DMV stand. But, this one is so well thought out. I no longer need a light as I can easily visualize the white beneath it as a focal point. The self contained case is great as well. I went ahead and bought a second one after my first purchase. Now I have one for home and one for my travel/emergency kit. It worked just as well on on the road (inside my car) as it did as home. I'm thrilled with it.

    Overall, great

The silicone vented inserter is wonderful! It’s so soft and forgiving when putting my sclerals in, I can’t believe it! And the inserter has a larger hole so you can dry it with a a-tip. It also makes it so easy to visualize the white target beneath and get the contact centered for easy insertion. The overall design works. I put it on my upside down rinsing bowl to bring it up to a comfortable height. I may get another for my purse and leave this one on my eye tool counter. It is a little pricy for the flimsy feeling plastic, but they tell me it’s guaranteed for life. The company responded to my email so that’s a big plus for them. Highly recommend, especially since it’s not a consumable you have to purchase every few months.

    Great new product!

The color of the plunger with the white plastic underneath has eliminated the need for a flashlight, so one less thing to fiddle with. I’ve tried many things to reduce/eliminate the saline solution all over the counter top, and this product is far superior to ant item I’ve tried. I hope that additional blue plungers will become available so that I can replace it when needed. The ability to wipe it dry is also a big plus. I will caution that the video shows it being rinsed in tap water. My eye care professionals caution not to get tap water into eyes or eye care devices.

This is a ten star product for me!

    Have LensBase, Will Travel

I have needed to use the See Green to insert my Scleral Lenses. I heard about the LensBase on NKCF Clearly KC Podcast by Dr. Melissa Barnett, OD. I tried the LensBase and I really like it.

As Rebecca thought, the LensBase is perfect for my Go Kit. I take my Go Kit with me daily and also when traveling.

With the large opening on the unique plunger and the white tray visible below, it is a good visual guide for me to insert my Sclerals.

The base “gives” a little, so for me, I like the “softer landing”when inserting my Sclerals, and sometimes I like to use the LensBase at home.

And I love that the LensBase comes in it’s own small case and takes up such little space.

The LensBase is very easy to set up & use and easy to pack it up too. It is a nice bonus that the bottom tray catches the insertion fluid that I use to rinse and to fill my Sclerals.

I’m very happy with the LensBase.
