    About Sil-Ophtho

    • Medium viscosity dimethylpolysiloxane (silicone oil)
    • Lubricant for ocular prosthetic (prosthetic eye, scleral shell)
    • 15mL bottle

    Description (Rebecca's)

A customer asked me to consider stocking this product as they have had good success with it for lubricating their scleral shell (ocular prosthesis).

If you use a scleral shell and there is another product such as a lubricant, cleaning solution, etc, which you feel may help others if we highlight it here, please contact us. We love pulling together information in one place on things that can be helpful to people with uncommon or poorly served needs.

Careful: This is for use with an ocular prosthetic. It is not suitable for use in the eye or on a scleral lens!

    Description (Manufacturer's)

SIL-OPHTHO is a medium viscosity dimethylpolysiloxane silicone preparation and is preferred by the largest percent of prosthesis wearers for relief of subjective and objective irritation, discharge and crusting. Thorough clinical studies indicates that the benefits from this, and advantages over other lubricants results from the inert chemical structure and specific lubricating characteristics of the SIL-OPHTHO series.

    Keywords: prosthetic eye lubricant

    Instructions:

    1. Apply 1-2 drops of SIL-OPHTHO 3-4 times daily without removing the artificial eye, blink to spread evenly, rub the excess into the skin of both lids, and remove greasy appearance with cleansing tissue.
    2. TO CLEAN FRONT SURFACE OF EYE. Use a dampened cotton-tipped applicator, without removing the eye; inspect the lower lid by gently pulling it downward and remove any accumulated discharge with minimal rubbing. Do this as often as is necessary to maintain appearance.
    3. LEAVE THE EYE IN PLACE AS LONG AS IT IS COMFORTABLE- but remove it for either:
      1. A. excessive external discharge if noticed soon after cleansing with the applicator (as in No. 2)
      2. B. Unusual irritation that is not relieved with the usual addition of SIL-OPHTHO.
    4. IF THE ARTIFICIAL EYE IS TO BE REMOVED FOR ANY REASON follow these four steps:
      1. A. Wash hands thoroughly with special soap taking care to rinse it off completely
      2. B. Remove the eye as usual and wash it with the soap, using finger tips - again rinse thoroughly
      3. C. Dry the eye with cleansing tissue, then apply SIL-OPHTHO to the front and back surfaces
      4. D. Replace the eye and add one additional drop externally; then follow step #1 above.

If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult your physician. No refrigeration of this lubricant is necessary .
