Note regarding shortage of alcohol-based "extra-strength" contact lens cleaning solutions
Unfortunately, this is a troubled niche with unreliable supply. Our supply of Sereine ESDC has been sporadic at best.
If you visit this page when this product is out of stock, which will be most of the time, here are some tips:
First, please be sure to consult your scleral lens provider for guidance and recommendations.
Other alcohol-based cleaners available in the US:
- Miraflow (see miraflow.com)
- Lensfresh (see lensfresh.com)
Additional cleaning solutions you may wish to consider:
- Multi-purpose solution such as Unique pH, Boston Simplus or Tangible Clean. Any multi-purpose cleaner may be used for the "rub" cleaning step in scleral lens care.
- Progent: This is the strongest cleaning solution available for stubborn deposits. It is typically used once a week (or less). It's strong stuff, and somewhat complicated to use, but very effective.
About Sereine ESDC
- Quantity limits apply due to chronic product shortage
- Similar to Miraflow
- Contains alcohol
- NOT COMPATIBLE with hydra-peg coated lenses
- 1 fl oz (30mL)
Description (Rebecca's)
Another rerun of Miraflow. And oh how we need these extra strength cleaners.
Careful, though, please do not use this on a hydra-peg coated lens as it will strip the coating.
NOTE: Technically, using Sereine ESC for scleral lenses is "off label". That is, it is labeled for use with soft, silicone hydrogel, and hard (i.e. PMMA) lenses; they do not have RGP lenses (which is what scleral lenses are) included in their labeled uses. As with all contact lens solutions, make sure your eye doctor approves what you use!
CAUTION: The FDA, CDC, AAO and other regulatory and professional organizations strongly recommend against ever rinsing contact lenses of any kind with water. Sereine ESC says on the box that lenses should be rinsed with saline, but in the package insert it says to rinse with water. Dry Eye Shop strongly recommends rinsing with saline only, never water, due to risk of acanthamoeba keratitis.
