    Description (by Rebecca)

I first stocked this product in 2015. To me, it looked and felt the thing that held the jewel-shaped hard candy when I was a kid. But there's a lot of people out there that have difficulty with lens insertion and need creative solutions.

In these past few years I've had more than enough feedback from actual users of the ring applicator to indicate it's an extremely useful tool for many people, though - like everything - not everyone.

I heard from a customer in 2018 with 15mm lenses who had difficulty with the lens not coming off the applicator. I contacted the manufacturer and they recommended trying the one with the smaller bowl - for mini sclerals and hybrids - so we are now stocking that one as well, and to be on the safe side I'm going to suggest that those with 15mm lenses try that one first.

    Description (from the manufacturer's literature)

The EZI Lens Applicator ring provides these unique features and benefits:

    • One finger lens insertion
    • Lens self-positioning
    • Less air entrapment
    • Proven safe and effective
    • Works with scleral lenses 15mm and larger
    • Flexible band fits most finger sizes
    • The EZi Lens Applicator ring is made of pliable medical grade plastic. The ring expands to accommodate a range of finger sizes.

    Life changing!

Finally a no-nonsense, quick, and efficient way of balancing, filling, and inserting larger scleral contacts. The ring conveniently slips on your index finger (the plastic is flexible to be manually opened wider if for larger fingers). The scleral lens fits completey and securely in large cup, has four raised ridges inside that provide stable support to avoid spillage. I found by adding a few drops of insertion saline in the cup will not only prevent the lens from sticking to the applicator, but to make sure the outside of the lens is hydrated for comfort after insertion. The ring allows you to get close enough to your eye to quickly plunge the lens to your eye to avoid dreaded air bubbles. You can actually see your eye in the mirror laying on a flat surface so guidance is easier and I can use my dominant hand index finger to insert lenses in both eyes.

I tested over 10 different insertion tools and methods and this is the only one where I didn't have to perform a magic trick to get the contact balanced and centered to fill and avoided spending up to $500 for a lighed stand inserter. I'm currently using 2 drops of preservative-free tears and Nutrifill, which can be expensive to constantly waste. The dreaded insertion process used to take me 20 minutes now takes less than 10 seconds per eye.

    Lifesaver!

I’m new to scleral lenses after phasing out of soft lenses due to extreme astigmatism (not keratoconus). I struggled with the plunger type insertion device because I kept missing my eye slightly up or down and bumping my lashes. The sclera ring on my right index finger, right middle finger holding lower lashes, and left index holding upper allows for a point of reference for my right hand and mimics the way I put soft contacts in for 20+ years. Only difference is I have to bend my chin to my chest to keep the scleral full of saline. I wish it was made of a little thicker plastic, but I will buy again and again. It made scleral insertion MUCH easier than with a plunger or even 3 finger tripod method which is the other insertion method I’ve had luck with and what I use if I happen to not have my ring with me.

    Game Changer!

The scleral lens applicator is a game changer for me! After six weeks of struggling to insert my lenses with the regular lens inserter, I was ready to give up and wear glasses. It was taking me 30-40 minutes to insert my lenses correctly without bubbles. The scleral lens applicator ring is a more natural way for me to insert my lenses, and it takes just a few seconds. I have been successful since my very first attempt. An added bonus is using much less saline every day, and, of course, experiencing no more frustration!
