    Description (by Rebecca)

Most people refer to these as "insertion plungers". DMV Scleral Cups are what the majority of us use to insert our PROSE and scleral lenses.

A similar type that people sometimes get confused is the DMV Vented Scleral Cup (completely hollow shaft, without the same ability to control suction). Make sure you know what type to get when you order, and if you are unsure of what you ordered before, give us a call.

    Description (from the manufacturer's literature)

Prosthetic Eye manipulation and Scleral Lens handling are enhanced by using the DMV® Scleral Cup™.

This suction cup product has been in use for decades and has become the industry standard for patients, contact lens fitters and Ocularists around the world. The Scleral Cup securely grasps the contact lens or prosthetic eye for insertion, removal and centering functions.

    Usage and care

What is the DMV Scleral Cup used for?

In our context, they're used for inserting PROSE and sclerals cups.

    Instructions for use

    For Scleral Contact Lens Removal

Squeeze the tapered handle of the DMV Scleral Cup and carefully apply it to the surface of the scleral contact lens. When the suction cup has been seated properly on the lens, release the squeeze pressure to apply suction and gently remove the contact lens from the eye. You may wish to place the Scleral Cup in the center of the lens. Remove the contact lens from the Scleral Cup by squeezing the handle again.

    Precautions

In the event of mistaken application of the Scleral Cup to the eye, merely squeeze the tapered handle to release suction. Should the lens resist removal from the eye, release the Scleral Cup by squeezing the handle to reverse the suction. Consult your eye care practitioner for an alternate removal process.

    For Lens Insertion

Lightly squeeze the handle of the Scleral Cup and place the properly wetted contact lens on the open end of the cup. Gently position the contact lens on the surface of the eye. Squeeze the handle again to release the Scleral Cup from the lens.

Do not use this product with diseased, injured or otherwise compromised eyes.

    For Prosthetic Eye Removal

Squeeze the tapered handle of the DMV Scleral Cup and carefully apply it onto the surface of the prosthetic eye. When the Scleral Cup has been seated properly on the prosthesis, please the squeeze pressure to apply suction and gently remove the prostheses from the eye socket. Remove the prosthesis from the Scleral Cup by squeezing the handle again.

    basic but necessary

I find that i have fewer issues with what I call "mattering" (what others may call fogging) when my insertion cups are new. So when I find myself removing my lens several times a day to clean and reinsert, I replace my sclera cup. The tendency to accumulate "gunk" on the lens seems to go away or to at least decrease.

Only occasionally do I have to try more than once to get my scleral out.
