Big Tree

After a brief traffic stop for a goose crossing, I made my first visit to the Mountaineers Foundation Rhododendron Preserve in Silverdale this Memorial Day weekend. It was a short and pleasantly sunny one-mile hike through old growth forest down to see Big Tree, a Douglas Fir that's about 30-feet around. The rain in the forecast held out until we were about 5 minutes from the car, at which point it really ended up dumping!

The path also took us along Chico creek where salmon spawn were swimming in the shallow parts. I was transfixed and took some great videos, but don't have an easy way to put them on the site.
