Summary
On September 16, 2024, Abbvie (Allergan) announced a recall of many lots of Refresh PM and Refresh Lacrilube manufactured between 2022 and 2024.
This was a Class 2 recall to the retail / healthcare professional level - a type of recall used for risks that are not deemed serious enough to require notification of consumers. Recipients of the recall notice (such as ourselves) are required to quarantine and return affected lots and notify distributors or healthcare professionals to whom they have further distributed it, but are not required to notify consumers. (We just prefer to be transparent about it.)
Reason for recall
"Impacted lots may contain a breach in the tube seal"
Risk to health
"The potential safety risk is medium. There is the reasonable possibility of causing temporary, or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or a remote possibility of serious adverse health consequences with use of the impacted product."
Recalled lots - Refresh PM
Recalled lots - Refresh Lacri-Lube
What to do
This recall notice came direct from the manufacturer, not the FDA, and there are no indications for action by consumers. If you have any concerns, please contact your eye doctor for guidance.
Our current lot of Refresh PM (the first we've had since it came off backorder recently) is not subject to recall. However, if you have any lots on this list and you believe you purchased them from us, we'll be happy to replace them with a newer lot, replace them with a different brand of ointment, or issue an in-store credit for them.
I wa sick when refresh pm was not on the shelves! I have a very dry eye from brain tumor surgery, and have used it for over 30 years!! What is the safest and closest product to equal it? Nothing I use seems to keep my eye lubricated like Refresh pm did.
