GSLS: A few final thoughts
I wanted to take a few minutes to share with you the "big picture" of how I felt about this meeting and my experiences here. Doing this is fun. First, can I just say, I loved doing this, and I have loved writing about it for you all! I have been to an awful lot of ophthalmology, and a handful of optometry conferences in the past 15+ years. In fact, I've spoken at some too, in the distant past (like an optometry meeting in Birmingham, UK and a meeting called Aegean Cornea in Olympia, Greece, way back in the beginning of time, about vision quality and dry eye complications...

GSLS Poster Session
The GSLS poster session was chock full of interesting case reports and other fresh, unique studies on all kinds of scleral lens topics. I'm told I may have violated protocol by taking pictures. Oops. I've taken pictures of posters at ever medical meeting I've ever been to so I could study them later, and I've always seen others doing it. Next time I'll abstain or ask the poster owners first! GSLS Part 8 - Scleral lens hygiene, care and compliance
On Friday morning there were three different sessions I wanted so much to be at! I opted for Dr Johns' pain session, Chaidie (my 16yo) took the following great notes on the care and compliance session, and unfortunately we had to miss out on the hydrogen peroxide session. I have left most of the notes intact and just annotated a bit with my comments in parentheses and highlighting a few things in yellow, so this post is in Chaidie's name. - Rebecca How hygiene, care and compliance play a role in complications associated with scleral lenses Drs Daddi Fadel & Mindy Toabe First...

GSLS Part 7 - Care and aftercare of scleral lenses
General Session: Care and aftercare of the specialty lens This session was moderated by Eef van der Worp, who provided context for us about risk issues for specialty lenses (note: I only reported on the scleral lens aspects) stemming from things like lens handling, care and maintenance. One of the things that he highlighted is that our lack of knowledge about actual incidence of things like microbial keratitis (we don't have enough history with the lenses and case reports etc) has implications for whether it is appropriate and ethical to use these lenses on normal, perfectly healthy eyes, as opposed...
