    About Refresh Relieva PF

    • Active ingredients: carboxymethylcellulose sodium 0.5% and glycerin 0.9%
    • Contains sodium hyaluronate
    • Preservative-free
    • 10mL (.33 fl oz) multi-dose bottle

    Description (by Rebecca)

This is Allergan's latest lubricant drop. It was first released as Refresh Repair, then rebranded soon after as Refresh Relieva.

It marks a couple of milestones: it's the first drop with sodium hyaluronate from one of the major ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, and it's the first preservative-free multi-dose bottles from ditto. I'm looking forward to more of both. I had heard good things in our groups about Refresh Repair, so please let us know what you think! Some scleral lens users have been trying this (with their doctor's permission, since it's an off-label use) in their scleral lenses.

    Instructions

They also have a surprisingly nice *large print* (my eyes thank them...) fold-out instruction sheet in the box, with illustrations. I've been meaning to figure out a better way to reproduce it online but in the meantime, here's at least the text part of it:

STEP 1: Pull off the clear shipping cover by pulling straight up. Throw the shipping cover away. Do not use Refresh Relieva PF if shipping cover or pull tab are damaged or missing.

STEP 2: Remove the pull tab on the colored protective cap by pulling the end of the pull tab away from the bottle then winding it counterclockwise. Throw away the pull tab.

STEP 3: Remove the colored protective cap by pulling it up straight. Keep the colored protective cap.

STEP 4: Prime the bottle for first-time use by slowly squeezing the bottle to deliver one drop onto a tissue to get used to the pressure and time required to deliver one drop. Wait a few seconds after squeezing for the drop to fully dispense. Be sure to let your bottle reinflate between drops. Do this twice. Do not let the bottle tip touch the tissue.

STEP 5: The bottle is now ready for use. After use, recap the bottle with the colored protective cap by pushing it straight down onto the bottle.

STEP 6: Squeeze the bottle gently in the middle and let one drop fall into your affected eye. Please note that there might be a few seconds delay between squeezing and the drop coming out. Do not squeeze the bottle too hard. Once administered, let the bottle reinflate and then replace the colored protective cap.

By design, there may be residual volume of Refresh Relieva PF that remains in the bottle and may not dispense at the end when used as directed.

    Great Preservative Free Eyedrops

The Refresh Relieva PF drops are the best eyedrops for me. I’ve been using them for years and they have always worked so well. Love that they are preservative free and never irritate my sensitive eyes. I’ll continue to use them for as long as I need to.

    Horrible design

I have to buy drops to put in my eyes four times a day. The cost of this stuff and the ease of use is horrible. You have two different lids for some god knows why reason. Both are hard to put on the bottle. Once you "prime" The bottle, which to me is just a ridiculous thing to have to put directions in. You still have to use vise grips to get a drip out and it ends up on your cheek. I've wasted half this bottle and there's not that much in it to begin with. I'd really love an explanation on why we have two different lids for this bottle. And why it's made so that it can't come out. I'll go back to visine and hope that it helps me out. And when I do actually get it in my eye and blink a couple times about 5 minutes later my eyes are so crusty I feel like the sandman had a party.

    Complaint

It takes forever to get a drop out of the bottle. I’m going back to the individual dispensers and throwing this expensive alternative away!

    DryEyeShop

Hello! Due to the safety concern of bacterial growth, preservative free solutions cannot be safely used in bottles with conventional lids, only bottles with special droppers that have filters and other mechanisms to prevent bacterial contamination. Only preserved eye drops can safely be used in ordinary bottles.

We understand that arthritis can make it more difficult to use this type of bottle. Refresh Relieva preservative-free does come in a 30 count individual vial option as well and some people prefer those.

If you'd like to learn more about why the bottle type is so important, you might be interested in the Dry Eye Foundation's recent video on this topic: https://www.biologiceyedrops.org/watch/preservative-free-eye-drops

    Ease of squeezing the bottle

I absolutely hate dispensing the drops. Saying it only takes a few seconds is false advertising
