    Description (Rebecca's)

This is the RGP multipurpose solution sold by Tangible specifically for use with Hydra-PEG coated lenses, so it is one of the few that are suitable for cleaning and disinfecting scleral lenses that have Hydra-PEG.

I haven't used it yet! I'll try to remember to update this after I've tried it (although I'm not currently using lenses with Hydrapeg). But I've been hearing & reading good things on our Facebook group. Be sure to share your experiences... we always appreciate detailed reviews!

As with ALL multi-purpose solutions, DO NOT put this solution in the 'bowl' of your scleral lens. It is strictly for cleaning and disinfection, not filling.

**CAUTION**: The manufacturer's instructions on the box ("Step 4: Conditioning") appear to sanction putting a few drops in the lens before insertion. However, those instructions are NOT intended for scleral lenses, they are for soft and RGP lens users. That's very different, because the solution is washed away and drains out of the eye pretty quickly. With a scleral lens, the solution (including cleaning agents and preservatives) is held against the eye all day long. That's not a good thing!

    Label information

    Directions

To open bottle, turn cap counterclockwise. The cap has a tamper evident ring that breaks when it is turned counterclockwise. Do not use if the ring is broken before the first use. Replace cap after use. To thoroughly clean and disinfect your lenses, you must complete the following steps every time you remove them.

    Step 1: DAILY CLEAN

Place 3 drops of Tangible® Clean Multi-Purpose Solution on each side of contact lens. Gently rub both sides of the lens with the tip of forefinger for 15-20 seconds.

    Step 2: RINSE

Remove surface debris by rinsing thoroughly with the Tangible® Clean Multi-Purpose Solution.

    Step 3: DISINFECT/STORE

Place rinsed contact lenses in lens case and fill with fresh Tangible® Clean Multi-Purpose Solution for at least 6 hours.

    Step 4: CONDITIONING

To improve comfort and wetability, a few drops of Tangible® Clean Multi-Purpose Solution may be applied to both surfaces of the lens prior to insertion onto the eye.

See insert for complete cleaning and disinfecting directions.

DISCARD DATE: Discard any remaining solution 3 months after opening.

Good Product, But Not My Favorite

tl;dr version: Better than Boston Simplus, not as good as Menicon Unique pH

I've been on a rollercoaster journey trying to find the best solution for my scleral lenses since I got them in July. My doctor recommended Clear Care for daily cleaning and Boston One Step Enzymatic Cleaner once a week for protein buildup. I quickly learned that the One Step product was NOT OK to use with my Hydra-PEG coating. I like Clear Care, but I also wanted something I could use when I'm not at home that didn't have a 6-hour wait time before reusing the contacts. I tried Boston Simplus and DID NOT like it at all. It was too viscous, I didn't like having to do the cleaning in the morning, and it always made me feel like there was something in my eye after using it. I then tried this product, Tangible Clean, and Menicon Unique pH. While I like that Tangible Clean is made by the same company as Hydra-PEG. It's just a little too watery. Unique pH, in my opinion, was a great middle-of-the-road product.

    Excellent

This solution provides much more extended comfort than other solutions for RGP's. Requires much less refreshing drops during the day, and vision is more clear with this less viscous solution.

    Too thin and eats Hydra-PEG

A brand new Hydra-PEG coated lens lost it's coating within a month using this stuff.

Thanks for your review, and sorry about your experience with Hydra-PEG coming off early. Just for context I would want to make it clear that just because a cleaning solution is Hydra-PEG compatible (i.e. Tangible Clean, Unique pH, Boston Simplus) does not mean it will help to maintain the coating. This coating can wear off quickly for some users, for a lot of reasons, including the health of their corneas, and how much manual cleaning is done. It can be tricky finding the right balance between wanting our lenses very clean, and wanting the coating to last. - Hopefully the Tangible Boost product, when available, will help solve this for some.

    It’s just okay

When I first got my sclerals, my doc recommended Boston Simplus, so that’s what I always used. It was okay, but as others have mentioned, it’s very viscous, so I had to make sure to rinse really well before putting my lenses in. Then I discovered Clear Care and fell in love with how clean and clear my lenses were with that. But with my giant Prose case of course I go through it fast. I decided to try Tangible as a daily cleaner since it was new. As others have mentioned, it’s super watery. Like watery enough that I felt like it was hard to keep on the lens while rubbing so was it really cleaning? I did also notice that my lenses were slightly less comfortable while using it, like some slight burning. Maybe I’m sensitive to something in it? So, I’m back to my trusty Clear Care daily because that seems to work best for me.

    Tangible Clean Multipurpose Solution

I have used Boston Simplus, Menicon Unique pH Multi-Purpose Solution, and Tangible Clean to clean my sclera contact lenses.

I prefer Unique pH. The Boston product is too viscous and the directions for use call for cleaning contacts in the morning, which is inconvenient.

I tried the Tangible Clean Multipurpose Solution in the 3.4 oz. size. I first used the product on November 17, 2019. The bottle was empty on March 26, 2020. That is a little over 4 months of use.

During that time period I followed the label directions to apply 6 drops of solution and to rub the lens for 20 seconds. I applied only 3 drops to clean the second lens, using the previously applied solution to cushion the lens in my hand. The amount of solution per cleaning is about double what I use with Unique pH, and I see no difference in the cleanliness of my lenses. I also clean my lenses once a week with Clear Care Plus.

Another issue for me is the viscosity of the Tangible Clean solution. It is nearly like water, and it runs off the back of my hand when I switch lenses while cleaning. I did not realize the solution was approved to place directly on the eye, which, to me, seems to say it is not as effective a cleaner as Unique pH and thus requires more solution for cleaning each lens.

The 3.4 oz. bottle measures approximately 1 1/4 inches in diameter by 5 3/8 inches tall, so it is taller and narrower than the Unique pH bottle. It is easier to pick up when cleaning lenses than the Unique pH bottle. …

Thank you for taking so much time to give feedback!

I am absolutely with you on print sizes and colors. I have to say, Unique pH's apprx. 4pt aqua print on white background is the absolutely worst, but white on color background, even in larger print, is awful for those of us with poor contrast. And my 52yo eyes just grimace at the small print on most of these bottles.

Regarding this comment: "I did not realize the solution was approved to place directly on the eye..." Actually it's not approved for that (as in, point and squirt, like an eyedrop). But I imagine you're referring to step 4 of the instructions, about putting some on both sides before lens insertion. I have a couple of notes for you about that.

First of all, multi-purpose solutions pretty much by definition are designed for both disinfection and safety for contact with the eye. They have to pass rigorous FDA standards on all functions and personally I wouldn't sweat either the safety or the efficacy of any of these brands in that regard - whether or not I actually like the solution. However (my second point) it should never be applied to the bowl of a scleral lens. I discuss that point in more detail in the review immediately preceding yours because it may be a point of confusion for users, based on the wording of the instructions, as I learned just today!

    Thanks again Rebecca
