About See-Green System - light and stand

    • Lighted contact lens insertion stand
    • Helpful for stability during lens insertion process
    • Helpful for lens centration
    • Helpful for low vision and monocular users
    • This is the most inclusive kit, with stand, lighted inserter and plunger

    Description (Rebecca's)

This product line has been a mainstay for many scleral lens users for at least the last ten years. It was developed to address the special needs many large scleral lens users face.

    The light

The Lens Inserter is basically a modified plunger with a green LED light and battery pack. It shines a green light up through the plunger.

The light is a useful aid for lens placement in general, and for getting it centered correctly. Examples are low vision patients and people with only one seeing eye - or, really, anyone who struggles with lens centering for any reason.

    The stand

The point of the stand is twofold: (1) To be hands-free so that you can use both hands for lid spread (for example), and (2) to keep the insertion plunger, full of saline, perfectly stable during the insertion process. This helps both with ensuring the saline doesn't get spilled during insertion (or at least not as much) and helping get the lens placed correctly.

I think of it in terms of putting your eye on the lens rather than putting the lens on your eye. Being hands-free is great for people with a tremor, or who for any reason have difficulty holding the lens perfectly still, or who have difficulty keeping their lids open wide enough. By using the stand, both hands are freed up so that you can use them for your lids. It's easier to get the lens in with all the saline intact this way - spillage is more likely when holding the plunger in one hand. This is sometimes also a good tool for people who are helping disabled individuals with insertion.

This particular kit is for people who need the light AND the stand. Both can be purchased separately.

    Do-it-yourself?

This is not a cheap system. I stock it and value it because of the special niche it meets and knowing that the production cost for the developer is not cheap (this is not a mass manufactured item). But of course many people have developed their own 'variations on the theme', such as drilling a hole in some PVC piping. If you are handy, on a budget and/or just want to experiment, go for it. I just have a couple of cautions:

    • Be careful, very, very careful, if you're trying to use some other kind of light. Electricity (even just battery powered), saline (a great conductor!) and your corneas...  can be a dangerous mix unless you really know what you're doing.
    • This light can't be used with a regular DMV vented scleral cup (the opening is too big). If you need spare plungers, you really are better off purchasing the ones that are specifically for this system.

        Great product/Outstanding support

Blind in one eye, I was having a lot of difficulty getting my scleral lens in that eye to the extent that I started only putting the one in my good eye. Saw the light product, read the reviews and ordered. It came promptly but there was a malfunction so I called and the owner said they were closed for the holiday but he would see to it himself that a new product was shipped that same day. It arrived the next on a Sunday and I can now put the lens in both eyes because of the light that guides insertion. What a blessing! I can’t say enough about the owner as well- committed to actually helping people- something rare nowadays. Many thanks for making this product!!!

        See Green Light and Stand

I'm a brand new sclera lenses user, within my first month of getting them. So many problems with insertion because of my tiny eye lid closures. This was interesting to get, and use, and must admit I'm pleased with my own success rate to insert them. Patience is key, and so is relaxation instead of frustration. I've googled the model and how to use it, along with using it as a tool for insertion. I also like that it's travel along size, and ease with pouch it came in. Please don't get discouraged. This could be an amazing tool for your own success, especially for your vision.

        game changer

I can't get the lens in with out an aide because my open/closing space is just too narrow. I bought both this and the $399 device with a suction cup. Honestly this works better. For 1/2 the cost.

Thank you for the review, Robert!

For those who are reading reviews and wondering what the $399 device is - I believe he's referring to the S5 Inserter, which is sold on Amazon.

Review of my recent purchas of See-Green Stand

It wasn't helpful to me. I struggle with inserting the lens. I do well if my husband stands beside me when I'm inserting the lens and lets me know I'm doing well or need to adjust where I'm aiming. My daughter-in-law helps me often by inserting the lens. That is heavenly, but she cannot always be with me at the time of insertion.

I was willing to try the See-Green, but I'm afraid it didn't work for me.

        Good service! Good product!

I will be returning for my eye needs for my weird contacts. This contact stand makes applying my sceleral contacts so much easier to apply! Staff was friendly when I forgot to include my full address. They made sure to contact me and get things mailed off quickly. Item is very high quality. The base is a ceramic type material that acts as the perfect base. If your having a hard time applying your sceleral lenses this is a MUST buy!!!
