    Before you buy

This type of product is often a trial & error process. We do our best to make the return process convenient. But we also suggest that you consider buying two or more at once and sending back what doesn't work out, or at least reaching out for advice first.

    Description (by Rebecca)

EyeSeals 4.0 is one of a series of moisture goggles developed by the company Eye Eco. It's a very effective foamless shield that fills some important niches.

How does it compare to Onyix/Quartz? Some key advantages:

    • More versatile sizing (more likely to fit men or anyone with large orbits)
    • Better moisture seal
    • Vaults higher over the eyes (eyelashes won't reach it)
    • Less likely to create skin indentations

On the other hand, a few disadvantages:

    • Larger and bulker
    • Not compatible with all CPAP masks

How does it compare to Tranquileyes? I would say that the moisture retention is almost as good, while it does not require all the maintenance and parts replacements. Plus, it's transparent, so you can leave it on if you get up in the night. As a result, this has been my first recommendation for many new users - because it is so user friendly. Less maintenance, less hassle.

    Disadvantage or limitations?

    • Higher cost.
    • Relatively large sizing. May leave gaps on smaller faces.
    • Durability issues. The manufacturer warrants it for 6 months, and many people find that they need to replace it within a year.

Bottom line, this product is positioned in my head as "Almost as good as Tranquileyes at the moisture factor, without the drawbacks".

    Suggested best uses

    • Men. This is the first EyeEco product that fits most men quite well. It may be small for some men with extra large hat size.
    • Tranquileyes candidates. Many people who used to use, or who have been advised to use, Tranquileyes have switched to EyeSeals as a user-friendly alternative that is lower maintenance and does not touch the eye area.
    • Anyone with moderate to severe night dry eye who needs physical barrier protection but does not anything touching their eyelids and/or prefers a transparent product for night use
    • Patients with excessive drying due to inadequate eyelid closure (Bell's palsy, complications from eyelid surgeries, etc). We find these vaulting shields often an effective and more practical option for such patients than products that will hold the lids down.

      Alternatives to consider

      Much too big

I am a small person, and these are huge. They should legitimately come in multiple sizes given that you need to create a seal in order to have them do what they are supposed to do. Even tightened all the way, these had multiple gaps around both eyes and were pressing in odd places but did not seal at all. If you're on the smaller side, probably look elsewhere. I have no idea if these would have worked if they fit correctly.

      DryEyeShop

      Hi Jessica,

Thanks for posting a review. I'm sorry you purchased something that didn't fit. I absolutely agree that it would be great if there were multiple sizes of everything. Unfortunately this is a niche product category with very few options offered by very few companies. In order to try to compensate for this, I put a lot of effort into my product descriptions (including the sizing aspect), and I also offer one on one advice to help people find things that are likely to work for them. Last, we have a return policy for all of the night items to facilitate trial & error.

I do not recommend Eyeseals for people with small faces or small orbits, generally. Quartz Silicone Shield tends to be the favored one for that purpose, or the standard size Tranquileyes, although depending on exact sizing, even those may need to be modified (e.g. replacing the nose bridge if too wide). Sometimes none of the goggles fits adequately in which case other approaches may be needed.

      Sincerely
      Rebecca

I have experienced an orbital rebirth!

I suffer from dry eyes caused by air escaping from my CPAP mask. Analogous to the plight of Prometheus, I wake up every morning to experience pain that one would expect from an Eagle picking at your eyes. Eye drops did not help. Ointments did help, but like Odysseus was temporarily blinded by Poseidon as a punishment for blinding his son Polyphemus, I am temporarily blinded by the ointment's haze for 45-mintues to an hour as penance for not having enough sense to get a more reasonable solution to my problem. I tried silicone sheets, cucumber slices, sleeping masks, and post-operative LASIK goggles. The LASIK goggles were effective in preventing my dry eyes by blocking the air stream coming from my CPAP mask; however, I acquired a new problem that wasn't any better than the one I had before. I have a big head and the post-op LASIK goggles weren't meant for long term use and they are probably half the size (or possibly even smaller) of the surface area size of the EyeSeals. I experienced a different kind of eye pain from the goggles slipping down from its precarious perch above eye to have the hard frame edge rest directly on my eyeball, seemingly with the goal to push my eyeball out the back of my head. And if that wasn't enough, insult was added to injury because the goggles branded me with deep impressions on my face that took 2-3 hours fade. The EyeSeals goggles are large (covers my entire eye and rests on the bony frame around my eye and are soft and pliable. The…
