    Before you buy

This type of product is often a trial & error process. We do our best to make the return process convenient. But we also suggest that you consider buying two or more at once and sending back what doesn't work out, or at least reaching out for advice first.

    Description (by Rebecca)

This is my personal favorite for night dry eye protection. It was developed by Eye Eco specifically to protect CPAP mask users from air leaks, but after its launch it quickly became my go-to product for a great many people for night dry eye protection with or without CPAP.

Onyix/Quartz shields are not necessarily the products that provide maximal moisture, but they provide more than adequate moisture for a great many of us and they are small, user-friendly, easy to keep clean, low profile, and in general just very unobtrusive. So although I consider EyeSeals 4.0 superior in terms of protection offered (as well as some other advantages) I have stuck with Quartz for my personal use.

For CPAP users, Onyix & Quartz should remain the first choice for most people except those with larger hat or orbit sizes who will want to go straight to the EyeSeals.

I also find that many users like to rotate between products depending on time of year and the severity of their symptoms, so far example they might use Onyix/Quartz in the spring and summer months and then go back to Tranquileyes or EyeSeals 4.0 for the fall and winter when they are battling heated dry eye at night.

    Suggested best uses

    • First time dry eye shield users. This is the easiest one.
    • Users who want something low profile and lightweight. This is a great way to block all drafts and trap a fair amount of moisture without wearing anything large, thick, heavy or foam lined.
    • People who have skin reactions to the foam on Tranquileyes but for whom EyeSeals is too big or the material too heavy.
    • CPAP/BiPAP users. I have high confidence of the compatibility of this product with almost all masks. I very rarely hear from anyone who cannot get it to work properly with their mask. (It is returnable/refundable if it doesn't work out for any reason - please see return policy.)

    Limitations

Sizing: Onyix & Quartz are  too small for some users, or may sit too close to their eyes if they have large orbits and/or very long eyelashes.

Indentations: People who are prone to edema or who have very delicate, impressible skin around the eyes.

    Alternatives to consider

Please see our Product Guide: Night Dry Eye Protection Devices for suggested guidelines on product choices.

    Description (from the manufacturer's literature)

    about the product:

Recommended for sheltering eyes during sleep and air travel. Onyix™ (pronounced ON-ix) is an extremely soft, flexible, foamless shield made from silicone.

It gently shelters eyes from drafts and low humidity environments while also fogging up, creating a moisture rich environment while you sleep or rest. That makes it perfect for dry eye sufferers.

Lightweight and comfortable, the product is made in the USA, and is 100% Latex Free.

    included in the kit:

    • One Onyix™ silicone shield
    • One microfiber travel sack

    Usage and Care

What are Onyix & Quartz Silicone Shields used for?

Onyix and Quartz are used for dry eye protection at night and to protect CPAP/BiPAP mask users from air leaks.

    Instructions for use

Gently clean face and eyelids to remove all dirt and make-up prior to using Onyix. Your mask is designed to keep moisture in and drafts out. The fit should be comfortable. Similar to finding your perfect shoe size. Not too tight and not too loose. To avoid tearing the mask, adjust the strap while mask is off the face. Once you find the perfect fit, the wrap is designed to stay put.

For increased moisture during wear, add a few drops of water inside of eyecups prior to wearing. The combination of moisture, an enclosed space and body heat creates a natural humidifier for the eyes.

    Cleaning and care

To clean shield, wash with baby shampoo and rinse well with warm water. Dry with enclosed microfiber sack. Wash the head band as needed with cold water and mild soap, rinse well, squeeze out excess moisture and air dry.

    Cpap goggles

I like them so far. It is too early to give a full analysis.

I still get dry eyes wearing them so I will try some gel to see of that lasts longer.

Being an older male, I am up many times per night and find that each time my eyes are dry again,

so I have to put new drops in each eye.

Thanks for your review! Using them in tandem with a thick lubricant is going to be the best way for most people with severe overnight dryness. Another thing you can do if you haven't tried it already is put a couple of drops of water in each eye cup - helps them steam up more. People also find their results may vary a bit day to day and seasonally, depending on humidity level in the bedroom too.

    Love it

This product is exactly what I was hoping to find to work with my cpap mask. My only complaint is that it isn't clear to see through if i do open my eyes and I add many finger prints ..it does move around if not tight enough but I'll take that small hassle. I was trying to keep my eyes from drying out with the cpap.

Not sure - will report back later - are my eyelashes too long for these?

I like the form factor. Ordered these and the eye seals 4.0 clear to try. First impression is that these may actually sit too close to my eyes OR I actually have long eyelashes, which I never thought possible…

    DryEyeShop

Hi - thanks for posting, and I wish you the best with figuring this out! It's always smart to buy two at once to compare, when possible.

One of the fitting challenges is that for people with larger orbits, the silicone shields will fit closer to their eyes (i.e. edges rest within the orbital bone, rather than on it - in the latter cause the vault over the eye area is much higher). Then they can collide with lashes even if the lashes aren't unusually long. But... how many people know intuitively what size their orbits are? So it's hard to gauge before buying.

Night moisture chamber goggles are all about trial and error, for this and many other reasons! We're just happy that the manufacturers provide warranties so that we can continue to offer a return policy on all of them.
