Sophie has had Graves' ophthalmopathy for 14 year. She wishes that more people understood it is different from the occasional dry eyes everyone gets and literally changes your life. Surgeries, lubricants and goggles have helped her. She recommends Dry Eye Foundation and Mayo clinic in Rochester MN.

What is your diagnosis (or diagnoses if you have more than one)?

Graves Disease, Graves' ophthalmopathy

How long have you had it?

14 years

What do you wish more people understood about dry eye (or eye pain if that's your main issue) and how it affects people's lives?

That it is different from the occasional dry eyes everyone gets, it is chronic every day kind of thing that requires drops multiple times a day, ointment every night, goggles at night, it literally changes your life.

What has helped you the most?

honestly, getting orbital decompression surgery and strabismus surgery, one more surgery to go! That and being very diligent about putting drops and ointment in.

Are there any dry eye resources you'd like to recommend?

Dry Eye Foundation has so much information-my first place to go! Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN has great doctors and resources also.
