Dry eye glasses (also called moisture chamber glasses) are any glasses or goggles for daytime use that enclose your eyes. These include:

  • Goggles (motorcycle goggles, safety goggles)
  • Sports sunglasses with foam lining
  • Glasses sold specifically for dry eye (like the Ziena brand)

Dry eye glasses do two things:

  • They block air movement - wind, heat, a/c, vents, fans, etc
  • They raise the humidity in the enclosed space in front of your eyes

These two functions protection your eyes from environmental triggers that can break up a poor quality tear film, and they provide comfort through the very high humidity.

People who have severe dry eye symptoms that are affecting their daily lives significantly are the ones most likely to use dry eye glasses, especially:

In challenging environments

  • Outdoors
  • In dry climates
  • In dry indoor spaces, whether home, workplace or others

And during certain activities that increase dry eye symptoms, such as:

  • Computer use
  • Reading & other close work
  • Driving

Some people wear dry eye glasses all day, every day. Others wear them in specific places or only when symptoms flare.

It varies a lot from person to person.

For some, it's relatively dramatic. For others, it's more like "taking the edge off". You may be somewhere in between.

Some people notice benefits immediately, others not for awhile.

Any other options?

Some people have needs that can't be adequately met by any of the commercially available options - for example, due to a very high glasses prescription.

Some opticians will make custom moisture chambers. Click for more information.

What if...

  • Most dry eye glasses (other than motorcycle goggles) do not use straps
  • For many sports style wrap sunglasses, an optional strap is included to help ensure the frame is fitting snugly.
  • For Ziena glasses, if you need to cinch them closer to your face, there are "ear grippers" that can help tighten the fit.

Some items here can be worn over your prescription glasses.

Most dry eye glasses at dryeyeshop.com are prescription-ready. Make sure to check (or ask for) the prescription limits.

We do not sell glasses with prescription lenses. You can purchase glasses from us and take them to a local optician, or you can work directly with the manufacturer and have them put in your prescription lenses. Either way, we always recommend trying out the frames for fit, comfort and coverage before ordering prescription lenses made.

If your prescription cannot be accommodated by any commercial dry eye glasses, and if you are not satisfied with over-Rx options, you may want to pursue custom moisture chambers. Please scroll down for more information.

If you need ultra lightweight options, we recommend looking into Stoggles or Zenni Optical protective glasses.
