Discontinuation
We learned today that Soothe XP PF is not just on backorder but rather has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer (Bausch). We are sold out and it looks like most online retailers are as well, since it has not been available from the manufacturer for a couple of months.
What's unique about SootheXP - and what can you use instead?
Soothe XP is an emollient eye drop - not a very common type. Emollient drops contain mineral oil and/or light mineral oil. This gives the eye drop a "milky" appearance in the vial or bottle and it may need to be shaken before use.
Soothe XP contained 4.5% mineral oil and 1% light mineral oil.
There is no other product like that (except the preserved version which is still available). Furthermore, finding any comparable products is challenging because some manufacturers are following nonstandard labeling practices where the oil is listed as inactive... and the concentration is not stated.
The closest equivalents appear to be:
- Retaine MGD - unfortunately this product is also currently on shortage. Retaine MGD contains 0.5% light mineral oil and 0.5% mineral oil, which is actually much less than Soothe XP (which contains 1% and 4.5% respectively).
- Systane Complete - unfortunately this product does not disclose mineral oil concentration at all, so we can't compare on ingredients.

Hi LeeAnn! This drop had its fans and it’s a bummer to lose the preservative-free version, we don’t know why they stopped but the closest alternatives Retaine MGD and Systane Complete could be worth checking out!
Why were these discontinued permanently?? Only thing I’ve found out of tons that I’ve tried. Now just gone! This happens way to often with products!
Hi Jennifer! Yes – Eyeleve is basically the old Retaine MGD, with some slight differences between that and the current Retaine MGD advanced.
Retaine MGD Advanced has been on manufacturer backorder for awhile lately (happens a lot).
Do you know anything about Eyeleve MGD emollient droos by Bruder, apparently introduced in early 2025? They are supposed to contain .5%.light mineral oil, which I think would make them about the same strength as Retaine MGD, which right now I can’t find anywhere. I’m hoping this will be a sufficient substitue.
