    Description (by Rebecca)

EyeSeals 4.0 is one of a series of moisture goggles developed by the company Eye Eco. It's a very effective foamless shield that fills some important niches.

How does it compare to Onyix/Quartz? Some key advantages:

    • More versatile sizing (more likely to fit men or anyone with large orbits)
    • Better moisture seal
    • Vaults higher over the eyes (eyelashes won't reach it)
    • Less likely to create skin indentations

On the other hand, a few disadvantages:

    • Larger and bulker
    • Not compatible with all CPAP masks

How does it compare to Tranquileyes? I would say that the moisture retention is almost as good, while it does not require all the maintenance and parts replacements. Plus, it's available in a clear version, so you can leave it on if you get up in the night. As a result, this has been my first recommendation for many new users - because it is so user friendly. Less maintenance, less hassle.

    Disadvantage or limitations?

    • Higher cost.
    • Relatively large sizing. May leave gaps on smaller faces.
    • Durability issues. Th manufacturer warrants it for 6 months, and many people find that they need to replace it within a year.

Bottom line, this product is positioned in my head as "Almost as good as Tranquileyes at the moisture factor, without any of the drawbacks".

    Suggested best uses

    • Men. This is the first EyeEco product that fits most men quite well. It may be small for some men with extra large hat size.
    • Tranquileyes candidates. Many people who used to use, or who have been advised to use, Tranquileyes have switched to EyeSeals as a user-friendly alternative that is lower maintenance and does not touch the eye area.
    • Anyone with moderate to severe night dry eye who needs physical barrier protection but does not  anything touching their eyelids and/or prefers a transparent product for night use
    • Patients with excessive drying due to inadequate eyelid closure (Bell's palsy, complications from eyelid surgeries, etc). We find these vaulting shields often an effective and more practical option for such patients than products that will hold the lids down.

      Alternatives to consider

Night Goggle That Blocks Out Light

I bought the Eye Seal goggles on the advice of my ophthalmologist. My eyes don’t shut completely when NI close them and the charcoal totally blocks out the light and the mist you can purchase gives your eye lubrication during the night. I bought another pair on this site that are clear, but they did not block out the light completely for me; however, I found another use for them and wear them when cutting onions. I like the charcoal goggles so much that I’ve already bought another pair as a reserve so that I’m never without them.

A product I heavily rely on for good sleep

This mask is a necessity for me. I've been using it for a few years now. My eyelids don't shut all the way when I sleep. I love the Dry Eye Shop and how much support it offers people who suffer the way we do. For me, this mask is the perfect size (Tranquileyes sit down inside my eye sockets up against my eyes). It also doesn't distract me from sleep once I got used to it. As long as I manage to keep the mask on through the night it has a very high success rate for keeping my eyes from getting dry. I still have extremely bad nights where I get dry anyway, but they are rare. And I always put some kind of goop in my eye first as well (Genteal Gel or Muro 128). I can't be without it. It goes everywhere I do.

Does the mask stretch out eventually? Yeah. Can you break it if you tighten it while it's on your head? You can and I have. And I learned my lesson. But the way I see it this is not so much a weakness of the mask as it is a necessary part of the design of something meant to be on your face for 8 hours straight every night. It can't be hard or it won't be comfortable. It must be somewhat soft so it's comfortable against the skin and so it has some give as you move during the night. And if it is soft, it will eventually stretch. So every few months to a year I buy a new one because after that amount of time it has started to stretch out. It's a price I gladly pay to avoid waking up to my eyelid stuck to my eye. As far as tightening, ALWAYS tighten the strap…

Wow... my smile just got bigger and bigger as I read through this incredibly thoughtful review. Definitely ranks way up there with the best, most reasonable, practical and informative reviews of a dry eye product we've ever received. So grateful to you for taking the time to share! - Rebecca

      Really made a difference

This shield has helped me very much. They keep your eyes moist overnight and if you're a side sleeper like me it protects your eyes from rubbing into your pillow which is very irritating.

I get about 6 good months from one of these. Over time it starts to lose shape and is less effective. I notice my eyes are less comfortable when it gets older and I tend to forget it could be I need a new mask when I have a flare up. I just got a new one but I'm going to order another right now to keep on hand.

Definitely worth trying especially if your Dr says you have floppy eyelids.

      Not a fan

These broke - the rubber eye covering material - broke in half within 2 months. Not going to buy these again. Way too pricey for something that won't last or have any durability at all.

Hi Mike, Thanks for your review! I just wanted to reach out and make sure you're aware of the manufacturer warranty available for this. If you call Eye Eco at 888-730-7999 they can help you to a replacement. It's also important to note that it will be more inclined to tear if the strap is tightened while on your head. If you can help any further with other options or info just let us know.
