Description (Rebecca's)
Yes, microwavable masks are still a staple of the lid care world and there are a great many to choose from at this point! Many of them are nearly identical to each other, but not all. Common points of differentiation are the total mask width, the strap lengths, whether it comes with any kind of cover and whether it comes with a carry pouch.
Key features of this one:
- Washable cover made of very soft bamboo fabric
- Carry pouch
- Elastic strap: Most straps are all about the velcro but this one is not - it's an adjustable elastic strap, which for some people is going to be more comfortable
- Cover is form-fitted (compared to some others that are more of a loose pouch) and closes at the top with long skinny velcro straps.
- Mask itself is "puckered" in the middle of each eye-cover part, which helps prevent too much weight creating pressure on the eye. (Another example of this is the Blinkjoy microwavable mask, which is heavier and much more tightly packed so it retains heat pretty well but the 'puckering' helps keep it from pressing too much.)
My one criticism of this product (or maybe just observation, to be fair) is that it is wide. It's about 5 inches from the middle of one eyecup to the middle of the other, compared to about 3.5" (Bruder) to about 4-4.5" (most others). If your eyes are fairly wide apart this will be perfect, otherwise you might find yourself pushing it inwards a teensy bit to pack the heat where you want it. The aspect of this that bothered me personally (but may not be an issue for you!) was a lot of the bulk of the beads reaching way outside my eye area itself. For some people this is a plus (very comforting) but personally I am one of the people like likes to minimize heat contact with my skin outside my eye area.

Description (Manufacturer's)
The OPTASE Heat Mask Pro is a reusable microwavable eye mask made up of a removable, machine washable bamboo fabric cover and a mask insert built around Hydrobead Technology. The mask has a contoured fit, with stitching that holds the beads in place, and an adjustable strap that is latex free and Velcro free. It comes with a storage pouch and is designed for up to 365 daily uses.
This is a moist warm compress. Hydrobead Technology absorbs moisture from the air and releases it as moist heat when the mask is warmed in a microwave. The warm mask is placed over closed eyes for 10 minutes as part of a daily eyecare routine, and it is step 1, Heat, of the OPTASE three step regimen of Heat, Cleanse and Hydrate. The same mask can also be chilled in a freezer and used cold.
