NEW to Blinkjoy brand? Please scroll down to my general description.

What's new in Gen 3 (both versions)?

Blinkjoy has done a terrific job incorporating everything they learned from customer responses to the first two generations.  Starting with Gen2, they've kept the high quality materials, they've backed down on the 'over-engineering', they've slimmed down overall, they've focused on user-friendliness, and they've accepted that side sleeping and deep eye cups are separate needs that cannot be combined for all users.

  • Materials: Kept the lovely high quality materials from Gen2.
  • Mask + strap size + construction: Slimmed back down! The area that the eye cups attach to is more like Gen1 (shorter and narrower than Gen2). The straps are lighter weight, more breathable, and narrower.
  • Eye cup construction: Abandoned 'over-engineering' in favor of user-friendliness. With Gen2, the silicone cups were not easy to place back on the eye cups after washing, and the optional cloth covers tended to just fall off. These are no longer issues at all as they have returned to (roughly) the eye cup concept of Gen1.
  • Eye cup depth: Continued offering both deep eye cups and tapered eye cups, but on the same mask style. In fact, the Gen3 mask base appears identical for both types - only the eye cups are different.
  • Travel case: In place of the oddly long, hard-side cases of Gen1/Gen2, they've adopted a sensible soft case where the product can be folded.
  • Price: At $79, it's slightly less than Gen2. It's a hefty price. However, in terms of value for money, it's a more durable product than Eyeseals or Tranquileyes.

Comparing Back Sleeper vs Side Sleeper versions of Blinkjoy 3

The mask itself is identical for the two Gen3 versions of Blinkjoy - only the eye cups are different.

Back Sleeper: The eye cups are now dark blue silicone rather than the light blue of Gen1. They are still of uniform depth across the eye cup. They feel slightly thicker on the outside and distinctly thicker at the base part that tucks into the cloth eye cup. I had to fiddle with it a bit and reposition the eye cups to get the seal I needed.

Side Sleeper: The eye cups taper, but rather than tapering "deep to shallow", they taper "medium depth to no depth" - at the outside, there is barely any 'lip' at all. Rather than wrapping all over the eye cup like Gen2 (making them hard to put back on after removal for cleaning) they sit in/on the eye cup, but for security - so they won't fall out - they have a sort of "press-in" protruding piece of silicone in the center. It's a little tricky figuring out how to make sure it's really secured.

New to Blinkjoy entirely? Here's where it fits in:

Blinkjoy fills some important gaps in the 'dry eye goggle/mask' market, and at present (August 2026) they are also the only innovator in this product category. Here's what Blinkjoy has brought us:

  • Moisture seal: The silicone eye cups are designed to trap moisture over the eyes and provide a close-fitting seal. They are not intended to be 100% airtight.
  • Customizable eye distance: The eye cup cushions on Blinkjoy attach with velcro. Slide them left or right. This is a unique feature and the first of its kind. No more jury-rigging goggles with scissors, tape, glue, thread, etc. to get them to fit better.
  • Eye cup depth: Gen3/Back sleeper version, and Gen1, have eye cups with a uniform depth and which will be safe for most patients, in terms of not coming in contact with the eye despite eye opening during sleep. Gen3/Side sleeper version, and Gen2, have eye cups which taper steeply outwards
  • Side and stomach sleeper friendliness? Gen3/Side sleeper and Gen2 were designed for this purpose. The eye cups taper steeply outwards.
  • Super-secure strap: If your experience with other moisture goggles has been "I find it on the floor in the morning", I would venture to say that that is very unlikely to be the case with any Blinkjoy mask. The strap is an extension of the mask itself rather than being a lightweight addition. This makes it more secure, though also bulkier. The newest masks (Gen3 side and back sleeper versions) have a moderate width strap, a significant improvement over the wider Gen2.

Who I would recommend Blinkjoy 3 Back Sleeper for...

...bearing in mind that wearing anything on your head at night is always trial and error.

  • Most people with chronic severe overnight dryness. This is both a great starter product and a great product for people who have tried lots of other things, including taping lids down. I would have no hesitation in recommending one of the Gen3 masks to most people. It has a flexible fit, and it will stay on well, and the materials are comfortable. Some people, however, know that they cannot tolerate much bulk on their head/face while sleeping, and if that's you, this product will not be likely to prove the exception.
  • People with nocturnal lagophthalmos (exception: severe cases): The eye cups on Gen3/Back Sleeper are fairly deep, so unless you have very prominent eyes and a significant lid opening, your eyes should not come in contact with the back of the eye cup. However, we strongly recommend that all patients show the product to their eye doctor so they can decide on the benefit/risk profile for you.
  • People with custom fit needs: A terrific feature of Blinkjoy is that the eye cups can be positioned wherever you need them. Eyes wide apart or very close set? No problem!
  • Maybe: side sleepers who can't get comfortable with other goggles. This is a bulky, but yet very well designed product.

Who I would NOT recommend Blinkjoy 3 Back Sleeper for:

  • I'm not sure yet. Also, I'm biased in favor of the Back Sleeper version (not crazy about the tapered eye cups for my own use). Please let me know your experience!

Durability?

Based on our experiences with Gen2, Gen3 should be similarly excellent.

Advice for trying it out

As with all moisture goggles or shields, please try it for at least a couple of weeks before deciding whether it's going to help you.

If you are new to this category of product, consider trying at least one other product at the same time so that you can compare them side by side. This advice is partly born out of years of experience watching people buy a product and return it only to buy it again when they eventually figure out that, while nothing was perfect, the one they bought first actually worked better than everything they tried subsequently. But the other reason that I say to give it awhile is that this type of product in general typically does not give instant relief, although of course you may be an exception.

Last, something that probably no one wants to hear, though I think it will resonate with many veteran patients: Sometimes with moisture goggle type things you just can't explain the results. I mean there have been nights when I have worn a perfectly sealed goggle or shield and when it was literally dripping wet in the morning but my eyes felt like cardboard anyway. Other times they give me lots of relief. I cannot tell you why, other than (a) feeling dry is not the same as being dry and (b) there's always a bit of the random at play with dry eye - we have good days and bad days. Bottom line, give it a little time.

Manufacturer's description

If you wake up with dry, irritated eyes, or reach for drops in the middle of the night, your eyes are losing moisture while you sleep. The Hydrating Sleep Mask 3 creates a sealed chamber around your eyes that locks in hydration, prevents tear evaporation, and protects against dry air. And with our most comfortable design ever, in two variants built for how you actually sleep, it's finally effortless to wear until morning.

Key Features

  • Two Sleep-Style Variants: For the first time, choose the mask built for how you sleep. The Side Sleeper features a significantly tapered outer edge that disappears when you roll onto your side. The Back Sleeper features deeply vaulted eye cups for extra clearance and coverage.

  • Our Most Comfortable Design Ever: Lighter weight and lower profile than any previous Blinkjoy sleep mask. It feels less like wearing a mask and more like wearing nothing at all.

  • One-Piece Stretch Band: The redesigned strap is stretchy, breathable, and seamless. No pressure points, no overheating, no midnight readjusting.

  • Fully Adjustable Eye Pieces: Position each eye piece independently to find your perfect fit, just like every Blinkjoy mask.

  • Removable, Washable Everything: The 100% medical grade silicone eye pieces pop out and rinse clean in the sink with soap and water. The band goes right in the wash.

  • Travel Ready: Comes with a beautifully soft travel case, because dry eyes don't stay home when you do.

Product Benefits

  • Maximizes Eye Hydration: The silicone eye pieces form a complete moisture seal around your eyes, creating a humid microenvironment that increases hydration retention against the ocular surface and minimizes tear evaporation overnight. Think of it as letting your eyes sleep in a sauna.

  • Minimizes Eye Exposure: Protects your eyes from drafts, wind, dust, heaters, air conditioning, and dry environments. For those whose eyes stay partially open during sleep, the mask provides a protective barrier against overnight dryness and irritation.

  • Helps Drops and Ointment Last All Night: Apply your nighttime gel drops or ointment first, then put on your mask. The moisture seal locks in that hydration instead of letting it evaporate, so the relief you apply at bedtime is still working at 3am.

  • Breathable, Soft, Comfortable: A mask only protects your eyes if it stays on. Sleep Mask 3 was engineered so you forget you're wearing it, whichever way you sleep.

  • Blocks Light for Deeper Sleep: Full coverage blocks light to support natural melatonin production and quality sleep.

  • Safe and Hypoallergenic: 100% medical grade silicone, free from phthalates, latex, dioxin, and BPA.
