Rebecca's Thoughts

It's thin.

Optase Hylo Relief is the brand's thinnest drop.

The upside of this is, it won't blur your vision.

The downside is, it won't last as long as others. If you just need a dose of wet, this is fine as an "anytime" drop. If you are severely symptomatic, you may find it doesn't do much.

On the other hand, some people who are severely symptomatic really prefer using thin drops more frequently over using thick drops. If that's you, you may like it. It's the thinnest drop on the market with hyaluronate.

About that Comod bottle

The most immediately noticeable thing about Optase Hylo Relief is the bottle. It is the European style preservative-free multi-dose bottle with the pump on the bottom. Some longtime dry eye patients may be familiar with this either from having used Ocusoft's Retaine HMPC product, or from purchasing European drops on sites that still allow unregistered imports. But for many people, this bottle will be new. (Optase Hylo Forte, which Scope released in 2025, also uses this bottle.)

I would have to say it took me awhile to warm up to this bottle but I actually really like it now. The dose control is great! No worrying about squeezing too much out, no mangled bottles. Click, you're done.

Please share in the reviews how you feel about the pump style, as compared with the "flat-top" multi-dose preservative-free bottles.

When should Optase Hylo Relief be used?

The symptoms of burning, itching, dry eyes or foreign-body sensation are often experienced due to dry or air conditioned environments. Environmental factors, side effects of medication, age, cigarette smoke, driving at night or prolonged periods working with visual display units can also be the cause of these symptoms.

Optase Hylo Relief relieves these symptoms and offers long lasting protection for the eyes.

Optase Hylo Relief contains Glycerin which is a humectant (moistening effect) that coms from plant sources. Glycerin protects both the surface of the eye against cell damage and assists healing.

How should Optase Hylo Relief be used?

The unique Optase Hylo Relief bottle system is a novel delivery system to the US Market: please take particular care to review the instructions carefully. For video instructions on how to use the Optase Hylo Rlief bottle, please scan the QR code on the side of the box. The design of the unique bottle system ensures that the size and speed of each drop are the same regardless of the pressure applied to the base of the bottle. Please do not use Optase Hylo Relief if any part of the protective seal on the folding carton is broken or damaged before using for the first time. During use, please avoid any contact between the tip of the bottle and your eye or your skin. After application, ensure that the tip is dry. Then replace the over-cap back on the bottle.

Priming the system:

To prime the system, remove the over-cap and invert the Optase Hylo Relief bottle with its tip pointing down.

Place two fingers on the base and your thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and press firmly on the base and release. Repeat this several times until the first drop is released. The bottle is now primed.

General use:

Remove the over-cap and invert the Optase Hylo Relief bottle with its tip pointing down. Support the hand holding the bottle with the other hand.

Hold the bottle as previously shown. With your head leaning back slightly, pull down your lower eyelid. Press the base of the bottle to enable the pump function, while ensuring that no direct contact is made with the eye. This enables the bottle to release one drop into the conjunctival sac. Release and repeat for the other eye. After each application, slowly close your eye to allow the fluid to spread evenly over the eye surface. Please avoid any contact between the tip of the bottle and your eye or your skins.

Love the pump action bottle

Just used Hylo Relief for the 1st time. I have arthritis in my thumbs so not having to squeeze bottle is great.

The first couple of drops did land on my face but then I got the hang of it. Product feels soothing and there is minimal blurriness.

Love the product, but not the new bottle design.

The new bottle design and pumping the drops take little while to get accustomed to. Rather have old squeeze bottle. I cant image someone with challenging hand dexterity or strength using this bottle.

Love this bottle, drops better than most for me

I have severe dry eye (MGD). I've tried almost every conceivable OTC drop (as well as Restasis and Cequa). This drop works better than the rest (with the possible exception of Oasis Tears Plus, with which this is on par for me). In addition, I find the delivery system much more functional and easier to use than any other. Easy to aim, easy to dispense just one drop. I have arthritis in my thumbs, and I love that I don't have to squeeze the sides of this bottle; pumping is so much easier and quicker (so less painful) than squeezing!! My only regrets are that the bottle is larger, and so uses more plastic than lower-profile bottles, and also that it is opaque, so I can't easily tell when to reorder. Note I'm giving 4 stars for effectiveness only because I have yet to find any drop that works all of the time...I still have to use drops far too many times per day and sometimes simply cannot find relief no matter what...but I'm a very tough case. These remain among the best, and if I were judging them on a relative basis only, I would definitely give them 5 stars. Thank you, Dry Eye Shop. You guys are absolutely the best!

Optase Hylo Relief

I have severe dry eye due to MGD. I have had this for about three years. When this first occurred the only thing which helped at all was ointment applied almost every hour. I tried Tyrvaya, Miebo, plugs, Cequa and many preservative free OTC drops. The first thing that really helped was getting scleral contacts lens and starting autologous drops. They both are wonderful! I still have to use OTC drops while I am wearing the scleral contacts but not frequently. I eliminated dairy and gluten and I take an Omega-3 supplement. My eyes are much better than they were three years ago but it has been a very slow process. The Optase Hylo was recommended by my optometrist so I tried them. These are the best OTC drops I have tried. I can go a couple of hours without my contact lens before I need to re-apply. The only negative about them is the size of the bottle. It is larger than most and I like to be able to put it in my pants pocket when I don’t have my purse with me. I forgot to mention I use Restasis which does help some.

Hylo Relief Drops

I was so happy to find a bottle of preservative free drops that was easy to use. I had no problems using it and can recommend it to anyone who is tired of most dispensers of such drops. However, the drops did not provide much relief for my dry eyes. That was disappointing, considering how much I like the dispenser.
