Rebecca's description

Added April 2026

See-Green has been the leading brand for scleral lens application tools for at least 15 years now. I really appreciate Dalsey Adaptives for their longstanding commitment to quality, compliance, above-and-beyond customer service support ethic, and excellent warranty support. In the era of "get cheap stuff online". all of those features are especially attractive when seeking good long-term options. Many inexpensive lighted stands are circulating which may, for example, have completely inappropriate lights - much too bright, and wavelengths unsuited to the purpose.

Anyway, the See-Green®™ Light Post Stand™ is See Green brand's latest kit and their first innovation for some time and they have done a great job.

What's new in this version?

The Light Post Stand incorporates design changes that many longstanding users will appreciate. The new model also makes it more user-friendly for new users.

Here's what you can expect compared to the original Light & Stand kit:

  • Taller: 4.25" without plunger (compared to 2")
  • Smaller footprint, but flared for stability.
  • Internal power supply (built into the stand), which makes it much more convenient to use. No external wires!
  • Integrated light, rather than separate. You can still use it both ways - bringing it to your eye, or bringing your eye to the stand, as the stand is narrower and easy to grip.
  • Easier to clean and sanitize
  • Plunger goes on, not in: Light protrudes from the stand and the plunger attaches to it.

Changing the batteries is a slightly different exercise and still not as elegant as you might expect for a retail product but at least it doesn't require a screwdriver! See pictures. The bottom of the stand pops off easily. Inside, there is a velcro band holding the two AA batteries in place - just pop it off, replace the batteries and pop it back on.

Plunger compatibility

As with the original See Green Light, you'll need to use See Green Plungers or See Green Silicone Plungers for this. (One is included with the kit.)

Who will want this version?

I am sure plenty of people who like trying new things will be considering the upgrade, but in terms of actual needs, I think the key considerations will be:

  • Convenience of an integrated device. This is just plain simpler and better across the board - don't have to worry about wires. You can still use it for all purposes - as a stand or as a handheld inserter.
  • Height. The original stand really is pretty short, and though you can always prop it up on something, there tends to be better stability when you can put a stand directly on the table or counter. For those who want something even taller, the DMV Scleral Stand (no longer manufactured) is a smidge taller but the plunger sinks further in so net-net it's about the same, so the best option for the "very tall" needs are the S5 and S5 Mini "telescoping" ones, which you can find on Amazon.

Who might want to stick with the original product set?

There are always people who stay attached to original designs that work well for them and I expect it will be the case here, so I'm glad See Green will be continuing to distribute the original items. Some people only need the light. Some people only need a stand. Some people may prefer the flatter, shorter original stand design .

  1. Always wet the bottom of the plunger with saline first. Turn on the light post with the switch on the bottom of the stand.
  2. Place the plunger on the light post and push it down all the way on the stand. Place the lens on the plunger in a level position lightly without generating suction.
  3. Overfill your lens with saline recommended by your doctor to improve your chances of a bubble-free application. Let the saline drip, not stream, into the lens.
  4. The Lid Spread is Everything. Hold open the eyelids using both hands. Look straight down. Lower your head smoothly and steadily while focusing on the green light in the hole in the plunger until you will feel the fluid. Press your eye downward onto the lens. Capture the lens with the eyelids by releasing the lids. Don't squint. Lift up your head, and the lens will come off the plunger if there isn't too much suction.
  5. Check for bubbles. Using a mirror in a well-lit setting, check for the presence of bubbles. If bubbles are present, the lens must be removed with DMV remover and reapplied. See DMV remover instructions that came with your product.

Changing the batteries

The green LED (light emitting diode) uses very little power from the battery when in use. You should get over 500 hours of use from the LED before needing to change the batteries. The batteries should not need to be changed for 5 to 10 months depending on the frequency of use.

  1. Using your fingers or the end of the spoon, slowly pry open the bottom cap to the Light Post Stand.
  2. Gently pull the bottom cap away from the stand to expose the battery holder. Don't pull hard on the wires. Remove the Velcro band around the battery holder and replace the (2) AAA batteries.
  3. Wrap the Velcro around the battery holder and replace inside the stand.
  4. Press the bottom cap back in place until it is fully closed. You can place it on a table and press down on the stand to close.

Tip for Cleaning Plungers

To clean the inside of the plunger, use the small nylon brush that came with your product. Wet the brush with alcohol or use soap and hot water to clean the inside. Rinse, dry and return to the vented vial.

Air travel- Carry teh unit on board air flights rather than in luggage in the cargo bay. The unit has ordinary AAA Duracell batteries. No lithium battery.

Temperature- DO NOT leave in a car in freezing or very hot temperatures.

Moisture- DO NOT KEEP the inserter in a bathroom with high moisture content i.e., from showering. Doing so will shorten the life of your lens inserter. Store the unit in a dry place.

Safety guide

Use the See-Green Plungers and Lens inserter for insertion only. Do not use to remove lens. For removal, use the DMV Ultra Contact Lens remover.

Replace plungers and removers every three months for sanitary practice and better performance.

Before Use: Wash hands thoroughly with soap (without moisturizer) in warm/hot water, rinse & dry with lint free cloth before handling plunger and light.

After Use: Always wipe off plunger, white stand, and light post with isopropyl alcohol on a clean cloth or use an alcohol prep pad.

Storage: After use and cleaning, place your application and remover plunger in the See-Green Vented Storage Vial between uses. Do not leave the plunger on the Light Post in between uses. Store unit light in a dry area.

Weekly: Wash plungers and Vented Storage Vial weekly with hot soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth. Do not wash the stand, plungers or vial in dishwasher. Do not immerse the Light Post Stand in water. Keep it dry.

Caution: Plunger and remover contain natural rubber latex, which may cause allergic reactions. Per manufacturer, lab testing finds no antigenic proteins in this material. Silicone plungers are available on request.

Warnings: Increase eye redness, pain, discharge, sensitivity to light, and/or significant reduction in vision may signal infection and requires IMMEDIATE attention. Please contact your primary eye care provider or eye doctor. Keep away from children - plungers are a choking hazard.

Carefully follow all instructions from your eye care professionals about lens application, lens disinfection and storage.
