Rebecca's description
ScleralEase is a nifty all-in-one scleral lens insertion/removal tool released in early 2026.
This plunger is made of a type of plastic called TPE. It has an interesting design described as ergonomic.
The remover end looks like any other remover. Personally, I found it slightly harder to dislodge it from my lens than a DMV Ultra, but not enough to cause concern.
The insertion end looks like most inserters - standard shape and size with a hole in the middle. In this sense, it's better than the Versa (DMV's dual-purpose tool), at least for larger lenses. One edge is partly cut away, leaving a slightly flattened end that can be used to "squeegee" a lens in your eye, i.e. wipe away debris without removing the lens.
-
To insert without suction (i.e. an experience similar to a DMV Vented Scleral Cup), you hold the plunger by the solid sides or, for stand users, you place it on the stand as per usual. I tried this with both the See Green stand (but not inserter! it can't be used with the light!) and the DMV Scleral Stand and it fits both of them though to get it in the See Green stand the edges of the removal end will brush the edges of the hole, which might fray them over time.
-
To insert with suction (i.e. an experience more like the standard DMV Scleral Cup), you would hold the plunger by the vented sides and use the vents to apply and release suction. This most definitely takes practice if you are used to the DMV Scleral Cup and it took me awhile. Personally, I greatly prefer using the DMV Scleral Cup because I need the suction.
ScleralEase is best suited for:
- scleral lens users who normally use plungers for both insertion and removal and normally use a vented inserter and who would prefer to only have to deal with a single tool: less to keep track of, less to replace, less to clean!
- people who want a single tool as a backup for travel or emergency use.
I don't feel ScleralEase would be the best choice for
- anyone who prefers suction, because the DMV Scleral Cup just does it better;
-
beginners in particular who needs suction for the technique they are being taught, especially if they're struggling to master insertion. There are just way too many things to think about at that stage - coordinating hands and fingers and lid positioning and blinking and so on. But for an experienced user who doesn't mind taking a little trouble to learn it, this could simplify their life.
- people who need a vented insertion tool that light will shine through to help them with lens centering (e.g. DMV Vented Scleral Cup or See-Green Plunger). It is solid - the vents are at the sides - so no light comes through, or at any rate not enough to notice.
There is a package insert with good detailed instructions and helpful information. However, it's in teeny tiny print that you'd have to have perfect vision to see, so, we include an enlarged copy for your convenience. It's also duplicated in the manufacturer's information below.

Instructions for Use
Choose Your Method
- Without suction: Hold the ScleralEase using the flat sides at the base to help guide and position the lens onto your eye
- With suction: Use your forefinger and thumb to pinch the vent holes on the ScleralEase while placing the lens. This creates a gentle suction to hold the lens in place
Application
- Place the Lens on the ScleralEase
- Place your clean scleral lens on top of the ScleralEase (large side of the device).
- Fill your scleral lens with solution following the scleral lens device instructions for use.
- Apply the Lens onto Your Eye
- Hold the eyelids open.
- Carefully place the scleral lens on the surface of the open eye.
- If using suction: Once the lens touches your eye, release your thumb and forefinger from the vent to remove suction.
- Gently pull the ScleralEase away, leaving the lens on your eye
After application
If the lens surface needs remoistening, dip the truncated portion into contact lens solution, move the truncated portion wiper up and down the lens until the desired wetting is achieved.
Removal
- Moisten the tip of the remover with sterile saline solution (small side of the ScleralEase).
- Place the remover tip against the outer third of the scleral lens until suction is achieved.
- Gently pull the scleral ease away from the eye to allow the scleral lens to be removed from the surface of the eye.
Always follow the advice and instructions given by your eye care professional for the best technique.
Cleaning & Care
After each use, clean ScleralEase with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow it to air dry completely before storing it in the vial. Ensure the air channel remains clear and free from debris.
