Purilens Plus Saline has been on the market in 4oz bottles for more than 20 years. It became the go-to "buffered" preservative-free saline after Alcon discontinued Unisol 4 in 2015, and in fact, it was the only solution of its type on the US market until Bausch & Lomb introduced Scleralfil in 2017. (A few years later, Contamac introduced Nutrifill, another type of buffered saline.)
Never soak your lenses in Purilens! Storing contact lenses in preservative-free solutions is a risk factor for Acanthamoeba keratitis.
The following video is a little out of date as it was made before the new package sizes became available:
Rinsing with PuriLens solution removes loosened debris from the lens surface prior to cleaning and disinfecting with the PuriLens system.
Keeps the lens wet (hydrated) during PuriLens System cleaning and disinfection.
PuriLens solution is indicated for use in rinsing, PuriLens system cleaning and disinfection, and storage of SOFT (hydrophilic) contact lenses.
None known.
PuriLens solution is sterile prior to opening. Because it contains no preservatives, it will not remain sterile indefinitely after opening and, therefore, should not be used as an eye drop. Do not touch the tip of the container to any surface since this may contaminate the solution. DO NOT USE IF SOLUTION IS CLOUDY OR DISCOLORED.
If you notice any of the above problems, remove and examine your lenses. If the problem stops and the lenses appear to be undamaged, rinse your lenses using PuriLens solution, then clean and disinfect the lenses in your PuriLens unit and reinsert them. If the problem continues or a lens appears to be damaged, IMMEDIATELY remove your lenses and IMMEDIATELY consult your eye care practitioner. Do not reinsert a damaged lens.
If any of the above symptoms occur, a serious condition such as infection, corneal ulcer, neovascularization or iritis may be present. Seek immediate professional identification of the problem and treatment to avoid serious eye damage.
Inside the bottle cap is a molded insert that will pierce the container. To open the bottle, first remove the cap and discard the white plastic restraining ring. Avoid touching the tip of the bottle. Replace the cap then press down and turn the cap clockwise to pierce the container.
Rinse, clean, and disinfect your lenses each time you remove them.
Rinse your lens thoroughly with PuriLens solution by holding the lens between the forefinger and thumb of one hand and directing a steady stream of PuriLens solution onto the lens for ten (10) seconds.
Always rinse the same lens, right to left, first to avoid mix-ups and put that lens into the correct chamber of the lens storage case.
Repeat the procedure for the second lens.

I use Perilens for both filling and rinsing my scleral lenses. I am well aware of the short time frame safely allowable for filling but I do go through it quite rapidly as I remove my lenses more than once per day. I experience more comfort using Purilens for filling than I do with nutrifill. Great product!

PuriLens Plus Saline (4 oz. size) is a nice alternative to the larger size since I use these to moisten my dry eyes. Don't fuss. I like it better than any drops or gel.
I originally made my own saline solution back in the day with saline salt pills and distilled water in a bottle each day. Then people were nasty, so that choice wasn't available anymore, and companies made saline available in bottles that cost more money. But my eyes were cranky, so I needed saline without preservatives. That wasn't easy to find, and was more expensive. But nasty people didn't follow the rules, so the FDA made companies put saline into a pressurized bottle, and they charged more money. Then the companies took the pressurized bottles away (because people didn't know how to use the sprayer the right way to clean out their eye! They didn't decant the saline into another bottle, duh!) So now, even though this stuff isn't supposed to be used in one's eye (and it's not), I do. So there. You shouldn't. I don't recommend it. But IF you do, wash your hands, don't touch the tip to your eye or any surface, don't touch the lid to any surface, keep the bottle in a cool place, don't roll it in the dirt or mud or drop it in the toilet or use if funky looking. Discard after a week. Use at your own risk. (I've never had an issue.)
Having the smaller bottle means I'm not dumping as much, and I use the excess for nose/sinus cleansing.
